Is anyone planning on going to Aussiecon 4 (World Science Fiction Convention) in Melbourne in September? I would love to go, but may not be able to for financial reasons. I also don't want to go by myself.
Kim Stanley Robertson and a couple of blokes I've never heard of -- not exactly a stellar guestlist. I never go to cons anyway, but this wouldn't tempt me even if it were in the same town as me.
I think those three are the guests of honour, not the guest list. There are a lot more authors coming, their names just aren't available yet. Which is annoying.
Not especially interested, and very busy at the time, so it's unlikely I'd be going.
However! So this comment isn't completely useless, I thought it might be nice to mention the Fantastic Planet: Sydney Science Fiction and Fantasy Film Festival which will be on from October 29 to November 5 this year. I'll be finished with assessment by then and it's closer than Melbourne!
Sorry. That wasn't directly relevant, but I'd probably forget to mention the event later if I didn't now =)
I will be there! Am giving a conference paper at a Climate Change and Dystopia conference the week before and will be sticking around for the Con = the only conference I've ever been to with a weapons policy.
Wonderful. I'd like to see you again - it's been too long. Last time I saw Jane we talked about getting together with you and Jean, but, not surprisingly, neither of us did anything about it in the end. Damned apathy!
I think we should have a drink earlier than that, especially considering I'm not sure I'll make it!
Jo, I wondered if I could borrow your dvds of Utena. I've been hankering to watch it again for years, now. I always planned to buy it some day, as (along with Trigun) it's my favourite anime series. I've never been able to afford it and god knows when I will, considering I'm a student now. I know this is a huge ask, and it's ok if you have a no-loan policy and don't want it to leave the house. I would probably feel that way myself. I just figured it wouldn't hurt to ask, as long as you don't feel pressured.
It's on my mind because I'm going to rewatch Evangelion with my housemate, who's never seen it. I rarely seem to watch anime these days, as I like watching it will people. I'll have to work on converting my housemate... ;-)
Anyway, drink? Coffee or alcohol? City, inner-city or someone's house?

Although it is quite a short guestlist.
