computer woes

 My computer, Oliver is sick. A hard drive is rebuilding right now, for the second time this week. I've been writing assignments at my parents' place, because too many things have been going wrong and resulting in disastrous delays. fengwah  has been stalwart in patching things up for me.

I'm writing this on Ayla's laptop. I hate laptops.

It would be awesome if you (and Veronica?) could come! :) We have mattresses if you need a place to stay.

Laptops can be made more tolerable by grabbing the monitor, mouse and keyboard from your desktop machine (it's OK to disconnect them while it's running, just don't jog the power cable) and plugging them in to the appropriate spots on the laptop. They'll auto-detect, though you'll probably want to right-click the desktop to change the screen resolution, which again is something you can do harmlessly while running without having to shut anything down. 95% of what ails you should go away then.

Yeah, if I needed to use a laptop for any length of time I'd do that. I was using Ayla's just to check my email and, of course, to whinge on lj. I have a feeling that if I owned a laptop I'd be lazy and not bother some of the time, resulting in woe.

That's so frustrating! At least it will all be over soon and you can have a well-earned (if short) rest. Looking forward to seeing you soon. Oh, and I think we can come to the housewarming (will just confirm with Mum and Dad).
