My dad was just telling us that many places, Starbucks included, don't use secure software. And apparently there are programs people can obtain so that when they cruise past Starbucks (for instance), they can use a wireless connection to download credit card information.
Therefore, no one is any the wiser that their info has been stolen.

The same thing happened to us on a trip to Denver last year. Anytime you lose control of your card (assuming the card doesn't have RFID in it), you run the risk of having the number stolen. Typically this is done when you give the wait staff your card to settle the bill. Lucky for us we noticed before things got out of hand, and we didn't lose any money.
I don't know. Apparently once I reported the issue it was out of my hands entirely. The officer said that I wouldn't hear anything else about it unless they needed my testimony in court.
