Absolutely everything distracts me while I read, which is difficult when you have a child and spouse in a house where you can hear everything that happens everywhere. I often have to trade sleep for reading time. Some days I do better at blocking out distractions than others. Any type of speech tends to disrupt my reading - people talking, TV, music with lyrics, etc. To compensate, I will attempt to block out some of the background noise by putting on headphones and listening to classical or jazz music (sans lyrics). This works some of the time. The rest of the time I just give and find something else to do.
Sounds - one reason why I wear hearing protectors at my place: less distractions (and also because Asperger's). Also depends a little on what I'm reading; some books require more attention and sounds really disturb it. XD
Specifically: people talking directly to me. I'm okay with most sounds (it comes off as white noise, really) but as soon as someone deliberately interrupts my reading to talk to me I get so flustered it's stupid.
