What is ability?

This is a question I have pondered many times over the years.  I've consistantly been told I have talent, of that I don't question.  It isn't hubris it's the mere fact that I HAVE been told so many times that the ability is there, ripe for the picking.  The thing I'm starting to wonder about it if I've let that fruit rot on the tree.  It's been

Gah! Now you're making ME depressed. Hush up. You have real talent.
You're good. You're original. What more you're real. Your characters are believable. You make OCs rock. Shaun for example. You know I'd do almost anything for a big brother like Shaun. That is a character that inspires loyalty, love, and possibly prozac to understand the wiseness that is he. Kidding on the prozac. But ya know I adore him.

You have a God-given talent and it rocks. Not everyone likes the same thing. Doesn't mean you're bad. Doesn't mean they are (though I know you're not applying it but I thought it for five seconds). It just is.

Did I ever tell you that your love for all things Shaun has always surprised me? I honestly don't think that I've ever used him as a POV character.
