They do know much more than I ever gave them credit for, I'll say that much. Many of their "laws" are easily broken by magic, but considering they know nothing about that most of it does make sense.
...I have a theory. Perhaps they are the ones who live in reality.
Magic follows little rhyme or reason. It has few restrictions... but I'm beginning to think. Magical backlash is a relatively common thing, and the stronger the botched spell the greater the consequence.
I think that might not be so much a failed spell... as reality fighting back. With magic we are disrupting the fabric of reality, altering its function... and when it backlashes, that's reality striking back at us.
Perhaps it is less blood that causes weakness, and more reality becoming more familiar with the string of wizards causing a disruption in its fabric.
I can see that being the case from the view of a Muggle. I see nothing unreasonable about magic, myself. It sounds like the Muggle sciences can have serious effects, as well, if their experiments are not performed correctly.
However, I can see a point in what you're saying. If your theory is correct, stronger magic comes from those less bound by this Muggle reality, right? In order to obtain stronger magic, you'd have to find a way to separate yourself from it...
