Oops after I wrote this, I remembered that one of the monitor heads was actually pregnant (I am struggling to remember names with this series since I'm focusing more on the drawings - which are very good - than some of the dialogue), so I guess they aren't robots. Unless "pregnant" means something else than the biological term. Maybe the dude's wife/partner is putting together a baby from a box of parts as we speak. XD
Oh man I forgot about that too! That was so confusing. Those characters really threw me for a loop to begin with, but the pregnancy was even more baffling.
Haha, yeah. I think I found them weirder than The Stalk. Apparently the thought of a lady spider assassin/mercenary doesn't really phase me that much...actually, a female spider who is a killer makes sense given nature. But humanoids with monitors for heads is a bit far out for me, apparently. Maybe Vaughan (or Staples) was trying to be a bit meta there since people today are so interconnected with tech. I am waiting for the first person who has a phone implant in their head, at this point. (Won't be me, for sure!)
Volume 1 ends with Marko's grandparents(IIRC) showing up on the tree spaceship in battle mode after Marko breaks the sword in offering to get the spaceship to open.
1) I think I gave it a 4 out of 5. Overall I'm engaged with the story and the art style is beautiful, but I could have done without some of the gratuitous sex & nudity. It feels like at least partially it was thrown in there to make the book 'edgy' and adult
