Yeah I decided I had to give it a shot soon since Erin has been gushing to me about it!

Just some blurbs about why I nominated these.

Since horror is forever alone in the voting (close, but not oh, gawd I cannot spell today no cigar), I thought I'd nom Bird Box, since I've heard good general word-of-mouth things about it. I don't know if it will meet eurii's horror-lust, though. XD

The Last Dragonslayer is the only Jasper Fforde series that I haven't dipped a toe into yet, and since BCF has already read 2 Fforde books, I thought, "why not?" It is the first in a series, though (but there are 3 books out already).

And The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry seems more like a general sort of novel, although it could probably fit in romance, too. (This was my 3rd choice and I was wracking my brain for something general.)

I cannot guarantee that this will meet your needs, but it is overwhelmingly tagged as horror on GR. :-> From what people said in the reviews, it's more of a Japanese-style psychological horror deal, so it's probably not gonna be like Saw, haha.

We haven't read Ocean at the End of the Lane :) we have read Oryx and Crake - it was a couple of years ago though!

Aw, boo. A friend has been poking me to read Oryx and Crake. What was the general consensus? He loves the series, but I can't decide if I think it sounds interesting or not. And can I nominate another book then?

You can still nominate Oryx and Crake if you want, especially since it has been a while there is potential for votes :)

Personally I felt the book had a slow start, but I really liked the ending. I need to read the next book soon but I've been slacking!
