Why is Jace's last name Wayland when his real last name is Herondale, but every on refers to him as Jace Lightwood?

Because for three books, he was (and still 99% of the time is) referred to as Jace Wayland. It's the most known of his many, many possible last names -- and who knows, with the TMI Second Cycle, he may be a Wayland after all...
