I find NaNo goes much more easily if you leave as much of it as you can open to chance. Some years I've done that with the entire plot, and ended up with weirdity on a major scale. This year, I actually have a plot, but I haven't laid out how I'm to get there -- and twists and developments have cropped up that I never foresaw. Your muse won't steer you wrong, though! :)
