Lots of pillows or just one?
I like to sleep with two pillows, for the extra support, but my favourite headrest is Chris' shoulder :D
What kind of books do you read?
I love fantasy, science fiction, and historical fiction. I also like reading non-fiction books about history, philosophy, politics, and science. I have a special fondness for graphic novels and dystopian and apocalyptic settings.
What are your neighbours like?
My downstairs neighbours are my landlady's daughter and her boyfriend. They're two of the nicest people you could ever meet. They're also very interesting people - they're the creators of the
zombie walk :D
One day, a light fixture in their living room ceiling fell and took part of the ceiling with it, so they had to call some people in to fix it. They invited me into their living room to see the damage, and there was a coffin in the middle of the room!
They didn't mention the coffin, so I didn't say anything either, but I was curious, so later I asked them about it. Apparently they got the coffin as a gift from a magician friend who thought that with hobbies like the zombie walk, they might have a use for it some day. And as my neighbour pointed out, why would you ever turn down a free coffin? ;) My family still joke about it, and refer to my neighbours as the vampires downstairs :D
What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
I've learned that demanding inner perfection of myself to the point where I lose touch with how I'm really feeling is anything but healthy. I think I'm starting to learn to let myself be in the moment and accept how I'm feeling without judging myself for it.
What's really creepy?
Extremists of any kind creep me out. Recently, I've run across some feminists of the radical extremist variety who espouse misandrist and transphobic attitudes that I don't want to touch with a ten-foot pole.
What's your current fandom/obsession/addiction?
Recently, I've become addicted to watching episodes of The Tudors online, and re-playing Baldur's Gate II.
Do you prefer your junk food sweet, salty or savoury?
I love all three! :D
What websites do you always visit when you go online?
LJ, of course, and my favourite webcomics. Some of my current favourites are
Digger by Ursula Vernon,
Weregeek by Alina Pete, and
Red String by Gina Biggs.
What was the last thing you bought?
Plastic bags for cleaning Chester's litterbox.
Do you get cravings? If so, what do you crave?
Coffee and tea [shocking, I know ;) ]. Also, lately I've been getting cravings for french fries, for some reason.
What do you do to change your mood?
Usually, I make myself a hot beverage, play computer games to distract myself, or call my Mom and Dad.
What was the last meal you ate?
Chili for supper, with yogurt for desert. Chili is one of my comfort foods, and yogurt is one of my favourite snacks.
Do you want to learn another language?
I'd love to become fluent in French and German. I won a German award in high school, but I'm afraid I've forgotten a good portion of what I learned. I can understand French quite well, but I can't speak it very fluently.
Five things you can't live without?
Tea, coffee, books, music, and the people I love.
Find the closest book currently sitting near you and flip to page 36. What is the first sentence of the second paragraph?
The book nearest me happened to be Critical Theory and Science Fiction, by Carl Freedman. I've been using it for my M.A. project. The first sentence of the second paragraph on page 36 is "The following passage condenses the opening of Ubik (1969), the novel that I take to be probably Dick's finest."
What's something that you'd like to say to someone right now?
I'd like to tell Cinnamon that she's a terrific person, and that she should always be gentle and forgiving with herself. And also that there's very little she should even need to be forgiven for. *hugs Cinnamon* ^__^
What are you looking forward to?
As I said above, being done my M.A., and spending time with my family, friends, and Chris. ^__^
Describe your bulletin board / mirror frame / fridge / or other place you keep things.
On my fridge, I have photos of me as a kid visiting my aunt in Windsor with my cousins.
