My thoughts on RPS

Feb 22, 2008 19:04

Well.

I have to say right off the top that I am not a huge fan of RPS. My partner, who wrote some, is sitting beside me frowning, but she knows how I feel.

I have always felt that writing about real people-- real people that we think we know--is a bit invasive. As a reader, I feel it crosses a line somehow, because in my mind, we truly do not know ( Read more... )

I still love him to death (and I'm really glad he shaved).

LOL. That's all I need too! That Grizzly Adams look he was rocking there for awhile...ewww. I just wanted to hold him down and shave him.

As much as I loved his pornstache (I know, I know, I'm probably the only one who liked it), I didn't like the full beard look. A face that beautiful should never be hidden behind a beard. Donna

I never thought Jake had to say a word, he is grieving privately. It just happened that he did not have to do any press junkets or interviews. I think this is a good thing, maybe he is not ready to say anything yet. I am sure he will say something at some point.

I say let him grieve in his own way. He lost a good friend.

I have seen some nice RPS, haven't read any that were negative towards Jake.

I agree. Some people like to, for lack of a better phrase, 'lick their wounds' in private. I think he will speak out when the grief has lessened, when he's come to terms with it. I noticed he didn't take part in the beach part of the funeral. I'm sure he wanted it to be about Heath, and if he'd turned up it would have turned into being about Jake. I feel that was a gift to Michelle and Heath's family. Also, as much as we would like to think that Heath and Jake were bosom buddies, I believe the sad fact is that they had grown apart. Part of Jake's grief may be his regret. Maybe he's feeling some guilt that he wasn't there for him when Heath was so obviously having troubles. We really don't know. Donna

HI Donna,

I am not sure Jake was even in Perth. I had heard he was at the Sony Studio memorial. It is a shame that he couldn't attend whatever memorial or service he chose to in peace.

I think they kept in touch, but I don't know how close he was with Matilda. Making him her godfather was an honor, but it doesn't necessarily mean he is going to take on that role for sure. Matilda has a big family to look after her.

only time would tell if Jake takes part in matilda's life at all

Yes, thank God she has a loving family. I don't see Jake in her life, though. I read somewhere that he and Gemma Ward had arrived in Perth before the funeral was to take place, then that was the last I heard. Maybe he just visited with the Ledgers. Donna

Thank you. Very well said. It was good to hear because I too have been astonished by the Jake bashing and it feels like it's coming from all corners, from the most unexpected of places sometimes. I keep thinking that it is natural to try to displace some sadness and embracing anger, and that Jake is making a handy target for people but still, it seems unfair.

As far as his choice of roles, to me it seems like he is picking projects that interest him headed by solid directors that he is looking to learn from. I don't really see the problem with that.

Thank you again for speaking your mind on this painful situation.

I can't make many comment's on movies Jakes or Heath. I seldom go to a theater.I cared for both actors and I still do. I always believed their personal life's are theirs and no one else's. How Jake shows his emotions is his business.I still love him as an actor and I always will and the same goes for Heath.

Right on!!! I have stated all along that Jake is growing up. The choices he made as a very young man (he was 23 when BBM was filmed, almost 4 years ago) are not going to remain the choices he makes now. That is called 'growth'. Granted I don't always like those choices, but I will defend to my dying day, his right to live his life as he sees fit ( ... )

Gotcha! I am completely on your side in this. Expecting a real person to conform to our expectations is sad. That's what we have fandom stories for. Regular BBM, Slash, RPS, AU or AU!AU all have a place. There we can hacve characters and actors do as we want. Thanks. Carole
