I have discovered the key to politics. Though, it's one of those things where in some cases it's genuinely arguable. Politicians tend to approach issues from different angles, always from the one they're strongest at, or which supports them the most. And most issues can be approached from vastly different perspectives, which are equally valid ( ... )

But, for what it's worth. I've yet to meet the person who actually honestly listened to what a politician said and then agreed with it, without already being on that politician's 'side' beforehand.

I know it happens, a lot even. I've just never encountered it.

Let's face it, if it didn't periodically happen, there'd really be no point waging all these election campagns against the tide of public consensus on your party's established identity.
