Well, I'm out this month.

Read 50 pages of our selection and decided against continuing on. Apparently, non-Western and Western literature have a lot in common, with older guys having sex with younger women and acting like entitled lying douchebags.

No thanks. You guys have fun with it, though!

I haven't started yet. If I hate it as much do you want to find a new selection together?

What, though? The only thing I can think of that I have upstairs is Out, a Japanese detective novel.

IDK. Maybe we can figure out a general discussion topic on non-Western literature instead then?

Or why so much literature has to be about cheating douchebags?

I guess I'll just try to pick something alternate. I have Chinese Cinderella, does that count?

Yeah, I'm... yeah, not fond of our protagonist. Fortunately I love the prose, and also I have some Rushdie books I've been meaning to read. Could go with one of those if necessary.

I think Mahasin is reading it too. Maybe we'll all quit together! :) But we've always been open to alternate reads, so whatever you want is fine.

I'm out as well. Sorry to have let it go so late. I've been having an awful month and then got the flu last week.

I didn't even make it fifty pages. Maybe another month I would, but I don't know.

Starting a very short novel by Naguib Mahfouz today, Wedding Song.
