I read the e-book version. The story starts off with Mr. Bones and his owner in Baltimore searching for one of Willy's old teachers. The ending is not a happy one but one that fits the story perfectly. You'll start out thinking Mr. Bone is just the narrator and it won't be until you're half way through before you realize that he is the real protaganist.
There are good things about this book. The narrative using a dog as the voice. This gives a different perspective on the story. The book is well written. And the characters are at times quirky and poignant.
And some things which aren't so good. There are a lot of dream sequences in the book and sometimes it confusing. And although the book is well written you have to put an effort into reading it. (Although I have read other Paul Auster's books and it seems to be the same with them.
I give it a 4 out of 5. I'm not sure that I can put this on a list of must reads since I'm not sure it will be everyone's cup of tea. I would hope you would try it. I think if you give it a chance you might like it. I know I did.
