"It's okay. I know you've been through a lot," she told him, realizing that he had to be absolutely ready to pass out after, especially after the flight from England. She had been the same way after returning the week before, the jet lag hitting her so much worse than it had going the other way

“Anyone in your position would’ve done the same, love,” Giles quietly said as he ran his fingers over her back. She wasn’t a Slayer and, even though he was sure she would’ve tried, there was no way she could’ve defeat Angelus. “Faith has a way of making people feel like that. She did it to Willow several times when Faith first showed up in Sunnydale. I don’t know how many times I saw Willow in tears because of Faith. She, Faith that is, even tried to kill Xander.”
Giles could hear the faint sound of the television next door as what sounded like the late news came on. It was getting late and if they were to be at the farm early, they needed to get some sleep. “We should get some rest, love. I have a barn demon to defeat tomorrow and you have to finish your packing. And,” he said, softly nuzzling her neck, “we have a ring to pick out. Your choice. But first we need to sleep.”
He snuggled closer to her, noting there was no longer any space between them. “Good night my love,” Giles whispered before dozing off.
Fred smiled as she rested her head on his chest and closed her eyes. She was sure her father's barn demon would keep Rupert busy long enough that she would get her packing finished. And the idea of a ring made everything seem all the more real. They were really engaged.
She lay there for a long time, listening to his heart beating and feeling his chest rising and falling beneath her hand, until finally, she fell asleep as well.
*****Morning came rather quickly, and soon Fred and Giles were waking up, still entangled in each other's arms. The temptation to forget what they had to do and stay in bed was almost too much, but they finally managed to separate themselves - after a heavy make-out session - and get dressed

Giles hadn’t expected to hunt demons when he came to Texas. Nonetheless, he had brought along a few weapons in case something happened. Preparation was the first thing that was pounded into their heads at the academy. And getting the weapons there had been easy. All he had to do was show his credentials and no one thought twice about questioning why he was carrying a half-sword and battle axe

Fred glanced over at Giles, then over at her parents. She knew that her mom and dad just wanted to spend time with her since she was moving again soon, but at the same time, she didn't want Rupert to feel like he was being smothered by all the attention. Then there was the number of times that they had almost been caught. She had a feeling the more time the spent at the house, the more dangerous it would be

Giles watched as Fred handled her parents with grace. When they went outside, and to his car, he nodded. "It sounds reasonable. I do like spending time with your parents but I fancy spending even more time with you," he said with a smile

"Well, since I'm with you, you'd probably be all right, but yeah, it's probably best not to try to go into San Antonio right now. We're hitting the lunch hour anyway, so it's going to be busy," Fred told him, wondering where he might have gotten lost but deciding not to ask

"I wasn't bad per say," Giles said with a grin. "Half of the stuff wasn't even my fault. I just ran around with the wrong crowd of eleven-year-olds. The school had a rather large science lab and we used to sneak into it and use the burners to burn things. There was even a few times where mixed a bunch of chemicals together just to see what would happen." He paused when he remembered who he was talking to. "Which was very wrong of us. You still love me, right? Even though I was bit of a deviant

Fred found herself blushing furiously at Xander's comment. The last person to call her a hottie had been Gunn, and she still wasn't used to anyone ever calling her that. "Well, I think I lucked out with who I'm marrying myself," she said softly

Giles felt like crawling underneath a rock but when Fred paid him the compliment, he smiled. He was glad that Andrew had enough sense to get them moving and out of there. “Yes, well, next time leave your partners in crime at home Willow,” he said as he followed them outside. There was two Council cars waiting since Giles’ hadn’t driven his own vehicle to the airport

Fred looked over at Giles with a big grin at Andrew's question. He played Dungeons and Dragons? Her friends in high school had been really into that, and she had played with them a few times. She was trying to imagine Giles playing it, though. Given the memories she had of her friends playing it, it was an interesting image

Giles was relieved to see the traffic wasn’t that heavy. He was exhausted and wanted nothing more than to go home and sleep. When they pulled up to his flat, he helped the driver get the luggage out of the boot and carried them inside. “All right,” he said when Fred told him she was going to take a shower. “I’m going to wash up and I’ll meet you in bed
