Once Fred was settled into the car with the bag containing her forensics kit, scanner, crossbow and dagger between her feet, she looked over at Rupert, raising her eyebrow. "You really do mean she'll be able to hear me if I think to her?" When he nodded, she bit her lip, wondering exactly how to do it. Should she just try sending a thought?
Willow, can you hear me? Oh, geez, if this isn't how it works, I'm gonna feel really stupid and--.
"No need to feel stupid, Fred. I can hear you just fine. This is exactly how it works.""I can hear her!" she exclaimed in amazement, her eyes opening wide. "That's...that's amazing. Is it because she's a witch? I mean, I've heard of telepathy, but I didn't realize it was tied to the Wiccan talents." She suddenly realized that how it worked didn't matter and dropped her head in embarrassment. "Sorry. I know that's not important right now

Giles glanced over as Fred started to look at her scanner and smiled. He glanced his rearview mirror and saw Andrew was muttering something to himself, something the young man often did before they went to fight something. He turned his attention back to the road, watching the brake lights of Buffy’s car.
Hey Giles? Buffy wants to know if she should go all the way into the village or park on the outskirts.
All the way in. We might need our vehicles for something.
Okay. And hey, Giles? You should teach Fred how to do this so I don’t have to hear her thoughts about… things.
Giles perked an eyebrow and looked at Fred. He chuckled a little bit and took her hand. “I love you,” he whispered. “And stop telling Willow about our sex life, love.” He gave her a small wink so she’d know he was only joking with her.
“Mr. Giles,” Andrew said from the back seat as he motioned in front of them. They could see the faint lights of the village in front of them. “We’re almost there.”
Fred felt herself blushing furiously again even thought she knew Rupert was just teasing her. "I didn't mean to," she whispered back. "I've never...I've never tried that sort of thing before, so I didn't know I was still broadcasting, and then she--oh, God, I think I'll just shut up now. I love you, too."
The village they were approaching served to distract from the faux pas Fred had committed, and instead they all focused on that instead. As they drove into the village, Fred peered out the window, her brow furrowing. The streets seemed almost deserted. There were lights on, and cars in the street, but there was no one out, and the curtains in most of the houses were closed.
"I think the villagers know something is here," she said, slipping the scanner back into her bag. "I don't know much about English villages, but I wouldn't imagine that the streets would be this deserted this early in the evening unless they were trying to avoid something."
"I believe you're right," Giles told Fred as he pulled his car over. Buffy was parked in front of him so all of them got out and met on the pavement. "We should split up in groups of three. I'll take Andrew and

Fred winced a bit in sympathy, watching as the doctor cleaned the wound. From the looks of the it, the slice was fairly clean, so that was good, all things considered. She held his other hand while Smith stitched him up, letting him lean against her

Giles allowed Fred to take him up to their bedroom. His clothes were sticky with blood and sweat so he took them off and slip his pajamas on. “I don’t recall if I told you this or not, but thank you for saving my life,” he said as slipped into his bed. “As for the demon, I think whoever was controlling it was nearby. Before you lot came along, the demon was down and then there was that flashed.”
He reached over and picked up a notepad and started to jot some things down. “At tomorrow’s meeting I’ll have to ask Willow if she felt anything before the flash of light,” Giles said. He could tell was Fred was looking at him and before she could say anything, he changed the subject. “You’re quite with the crossbow. Perhaps when we visit my parents this weekend, I’ll take you out with their archery range. Don’t believe they’ve used it in years.”
Giles finished his notes and placed the notepad on the bedside table again. He looked over at Fred and smiled. “Going to join me, love?”
"You're welcome," she told him as she picked up her nightgown and began to change into it. There had been no way she was going to let that demon just take him without a fight

Giles looked over at Fred when she asked if he was planning on going to work the next day. There had been a time when he didn’t have to answer to anyone else and he was still getting used to have Fred there. But Giles knew she was right and knew he needed to stay home and rest. “You’re right,” he said, kissing her cheek. “I’ll stay home tomorrow even though I’ll be terribly bored without you

"Never another," she promised with a grin, glad that he liked the idea of the others coming over for the debriefing. She was sure he was going to be climbing the walls by the end of the day, so that would at least give him something to focus on, and then he'd be back at work tomorrow

Giles had just finished making a pot of tea when the front doorbell rung. He’d managed to dress himself without much trouble, even though he wished he had time to shower. Perhaps when Fred got home she could help him with that. When he answered the door, he smiled when he saw Charlotte and ushered her in

Martin had come into to ask her some questions about his project, and then Stephanie had come in. She had finally made her breakthrough and wanted to have Fred look it over as the department head. So Fred had found herself unable to call Rupert after taking a look at her schedule and e-mail. She hoped that he wouldn't be too upset that she wasn't able to call right away

Giles chuckled at Fred’s enthusiasm over Charlotte asking Willow out. He just hoped Charlotte went through with it or he was going to have to speak with her again. “Yes, we had a nice chat about it. She didn’t know how to approach Willow but I gave her some, uh, expert advice,” he said as he sat down on the sofa in the parlour. “I miss you.”
When Fred mentioned that everyone was coming over for the debriefing, Giles nodded. “Could you tell them to take their time? I have something I want to give to you without all of them, standing about,” he said, starting to get worried about what he’d gotten her. What if she thought he was a total git for getting her such a thing without asking first.
“And I’m doing all right. I managed to get dressed but I couldn’t bathe. I suppose I’ll have to either hire a nurse or what for you to come home,” he said with a smile.
