Ok, so The Golem and the Djinni by Helene Wecker was amazing. I loved it - basically about two mythical beings who meet in turn of the century New York.
The Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier - a re-told fairytale (the 6 swans) set in ancient Ireland.
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. It's my favourite of his.
The Wild Girl by Kate Forsyth - about the girl who told the Brother's Grimm a substantial amount of the stories they would later publish.
Among Others by Jo Walton. Coming of age story set in Wales about a girl with an abusive mother who lives in a boarding school and loves books. There's also elements of fantasy and magic.
