ndp ranks the highest in terms of their plans to work towards environmental issues. This would be done mainly by being really hard on known polluting corporations. The Catch is that these corporations can simply take their business elsewhere if Canada doesn't like their pollution, which would be terrible for our economy.
"I want to pay taxes so that great programs like child care, health care, education and such can be available to everyone, even if I choose not to use them."
Me too!
There's a horrible circle going on that I've only just recently caught on to. If you donate (relatively) big bucks to charity you get a tax break for it. This means less money going into things like government funded child care, health care, education, etc. This means charities are the ones that have to step in there for those that can't afford it. Why can't the government make us feel better about where our money's going so we feel more charitable in giving it to them?
I don't agree with charities at all. My mom has worked with the charities floor at Revenue canada for 20 years and has seen so much corruption among charities that it isn't even funny. Any crook organization can claim to be a charity, get tax breaks, and give out fake donation receipts to whoever the hell they want. Revenue Canada, CSIS, and even the CIA (when charities are for "terrorists") work hard to catch these people, but it's a war they can't win.
It's our responsibility as Humans to better the condition of each other, and it is our duty as Canadians to make sure that our government reflects that interest. Charities can work, they certainly do better in the USA, but it works against how Canada is set up to work.
The unfortunate side is that many of us seem not to care for the "good interests" that legit charities have, and so they would never care to write to an mp to express a need for support. We tend to like our money more :/

Of course that's how I see it.
