English is not my first language either. I think they would enjoy Skellig by David Almond. I've read Eragon by C. Paolini, and I wouldn't recommend it. It can be very tedious. For your niece, I would also recommend Coraline by Neil Gaiman. I see someone recommended the His Dark Materials trilogy. I've read it, but I wouldn't recommend it to someone that young.
same here, English is not my first language, but I've been here a long time and read in English for many years. My niece and nephew dont live here, they just taking English in school in their country. thanks for recommendation. I'll be checking Coraline for my niece.
The Septimus Heap series, starting with Magyk. They have a similar feel to Harry Potter - I started reading them when I was going through withdrawal after finishing HP!
