Cute title for a book, isn't it? I heard about it on NPR and chatted with some friends about it a while back. Well, now I'm about to be a dog owner myself, and the comment about dropping a few hundred bucks on the first day of dog ownership is relevant. I am totally jealous of your dog! I need to figure out whether I can organize my life so that I can have one. It will probably require a 3-5 year plan.

Ack! I didn't start planning 3-5 years ago, just a year ago. Perhaps I should worry about not planning enough now... :-) M is teasing me for already planning my next car purchase (possibly a Honda Element or Toyota Scion, in about 3 years) around having one-two dogs.

Well, you are advantaged in that you have a rental that allows pets and a two-dog-walker household, plus a car a dog can actually fit in :) I've got a single person living situation, a no-pets apartment complex, and a Miata!

My next car will definitely have more passenger/trunk space and be more suitable for camping. I'm considering hatchbacks like the Mazda 3 and the Ford Escape, among others. However, it might be a long time before my current car dies (it's only 12, after all), and I'm too cheap to buy a car before I have to.
