Next year's job

So I'm still thinking about what to do when my current teaching contract ends. Yesterday, I spoke with a friend who has worked at a local university. Back in the day when I was a student worker in LSU foreign languages, I remember one year they were so desperate to find someone to teach introductory German that they found some grad student down in Physics or Chemistry or something and offered him a TA spot for that year, solely on the basis of his being a native speaker.

I remember him telling me that he was absolutely astonished at this, but as I recall he turned out to be a competent and well-liked TA and worked for us a couple of years I think. Even though it was totally not his field.
