From within her locked room in Community Building 1 she has been pouring over a copy of a book that she had hunted down from within the depths of the library. Finally putting her hands upon its dusty spine had seemed like a gift, a victory, yet it was because of ( Read more... )

Sort of. Do you have any good ones?

Fun? Useful? Distracting? Something practical. Well... As long as it doesn't involve a lot of reading, anyway.

[She's had enough of that for a day or two.]

Depends on what skills are in demand.

But that's just it - I'm don't have any demands. If it gets me out of the house? I'm game.

Okay, do you want something you can pick up quickly or something that'll take longer to learn? And do you want something useful or something more mundane?

How about we start with quick and mundane and, if I turn out to be a good student, we can work our way up to the more serious stuff.

I've got a ton I can pass on, if it's worth my while. [Hi 'mom'.]

Name your price.

[She's going to try her damnedest to shake off that little bit of left-over.. what? Resentment? Hostility? Either way it wouldn't be fair. That man and this man - they're not the same man.]

Well I do recall having some good food that you made.

[He might be able to act nicer, but that other man... was probably better on the whole.]

[She was another woman, too. A better cook. She smiles.]

Alright, how would an apple crumble suit you?

[She might still have some of the memories required to bake a crumble -- after all, that was one dish she had genuinely prepared herself. If not? Well. Even better. So much for letting go.]

What do you say about flower arranging? [She's really good at it!]

I haven't the slightest clue where I'd begin something like that...

Which is to say that I'd love to learn.

Good. [Pause.] Do you want lessons to start now?

I don't have anything else to do today.

[Nothing productive, anyway.]

Where ... I wonder if any of the stores around here sell flowers. Or give them -- Stock them. Or I suppose we could pick them ourselves, couldn't we? A host of golden daffodils.

I've taught my girls how to use magic. It's infinitely useful, I'm sure.

Magic?

[She gives a friendly laugh]

I can't promise I'd be a particularly good student, but I'd be willing to try. Absolutely.

Oh, don't worry. Much of the work is believing that it actually exists.

But you know, anyone here can learn it. Most of the time it takes meeting one of the spirits, but... seems like I'm a special little shortcut~

[Oh, she believes alright. In the Book world, anything that can exist so long as it can be imagined first.]

I've read a little bit about these spirits. They correspond with the elements if I'm remembering correctly. According to the guide, though, something about this place suppresses most forms of magic besides theirs - How is that you can circumvent them?
