Are the Chalet School books really so expensive now? I sort of knew that they were harder to get than they used to be, but... wow. I am sort of tempted to sell of all mine!
I know, ridiculous, isn't it... I spent some pretty silly amounts (for me) building up my collection five to ten years ago, but the other day saw a pb of Summer Term for SIXTY SEVEN POUNDS. Can't believe anyone would pay that! I see my collection as an investment...and in this case, a way to pay my car tax.
Some are much harder to get hold of than others - the first 20 or so were in print until recently and are usually cheap. The last 20 or so were only printed once in paperback and once in hardback so often sell for high prices. Have a look on the ABE website and marvel.
If I am ever out of work I could probably keep going for a (short) while by selling my books, and eating/sleeping under the rest.
If you want to see expensive, try the Abbey Girls series -Elsie J Oxenham. You can spend £200-£300 on Joy's New Adventure or Maidlin Bears the Torch! They are going to keep me in chocolate when i am very, very old!
Ah, that's reminded me - I *still* can't find my flipping copy of Librarian, despite there being no way it can have left the house.... Could I have that one please?

But, seriously, why is it that they're so expensive? Are there really so few copies floating about?
