i just watched a movie that i can't remember the title of, grr, 'flower(s).....etc'. personally, i find it amusing/ironic/interesting (english doesn't have a good word for this idea) that a flower girl in western culture is some weird position involving throwing flowers at a wedding, but in eastern tends to refer to a more sexual theme, like a courtesan or geisha...i'm fascinated by chinses culture, especially in that era, dunno why...
Chinese culture is intriguing - however, there was/is also a lot of hardships and rigid unnecessary suffering involved for women in that culture as well. In any case, you would really find the book interesting.
I've often thought about travelling back to Hong Kong to visit my father's roots. Maybe someday...
there are useless hardships for women in all cultures - even america and other 'modern' (ridiculous term, as far as i can tell) cultures. i see things in a sometimes odd or weird way, i see parallels, crossovers, junk like that. hong kong heritage (asian equivalent of 'american mutt' [and no offense, i know several who take pride in such a concept]) makes you screenname make more sense, and your picture (just couldn't pin down an exact country in or related to asia) make total sense. i call your look 'quasi-nordicized-asiatic', which is a term i've made up because i'm bored and allergic to libraries, hate computer libraries (can't come to terms with the non-tactile format), and tend to fall asleep due to exhaustion while trying to research, using any media, what the real terms are... i find most cultures intriguing, even the ones i supposedly live in...
