Who: Faylen and Shoon
What: Another not!date.
When: This log is way backdated; before the Shoon/Morgan VS Roy/Faylen tag team fight.
Meant to post this right after we finished, just noticed it wasn't up yet.
Shoon gulpped as he looked around for Faylen. He wanted to hang out with her before they had their fight. He wondered if asking her to join in a work out would ok...but dismissed it as not hang out apporiate with a girl. Especially a girl like Faylen. He rounded the corner and headed towards the square of the town, hoping to find her there.
Faylen stretched her arms above her head as she walked through the square. She had decided to take a walk so she could cool off before yelling at Roy for betting against them. It was such a nice day and she liked the scenery around Budehuc. The walk was a good idea, she was in a much better mood now.
Noticing her Shoon bounced to the balls of his feet and threw his hand up in the air, waving it around, "Hey! Faylen!" He called cheerfully and rushed over to her. "Hey, how's it going?"
Faylen dropped her arms out of the stretch to behind her head when she heard her name called. “Oh hey Shoon,” she said smiling at him. “What’s up?”
"Not much, I was...uh..." he never did came up with a plan once he found her. "I was...uh..." oh, hey. "Going to the stables to feed the horses," he said, girls loved horses after all. "I was just going to get some apples for them. Wanna join me?"
Faylen was ignorant to Shoon’s master plan, but she did like horses. “Sure!” she said brightly. “I didn’t have anything else planned. Sounds fun.”
"Great!" Shoon said, "Well...er...let's go get those apples, then." He started off towards the stand selling the fruit, pausing to look over his shoulder to look at Faylen. Once they had reached the stand he stared at them for a bit, trying to pick out the best ones for the horses. "What do you think they'll best; the green ones or the red ones?"
“Hmm…” Faylen send, leaning over to look at the apples more closely. “I dun’ know really…I don’t know ‘about horses much. The red ones are sweeter though and everything likes sweets!”
Shoon picked up a red one held it up to his eye. He personally liked the green ones best, but..."OK, we'll take some red ones then." He chose seven red ones, took a green one for himself, "Do you want one?" he asked Faylen.
At the time Shoon asked that question Faylen actually already had one in her mouth. She turned to him in a comical sight of the apple held just by her teeth as she shuffled the other apples in her arms for the horses. She got everything under control and finally finished the bite taking the apple out of her mouth and giggling self-consciously as she chewed, a light blush on her cheeks.
Shoon grinned, "I'll take that as a yes, then." He payed for the apples and together he and Faylen made their way to the stables. "So, we're going to face off first huh?"
Faylen followed after Shoon happily eating her apple, just enjoying being with a friend. “Yeah, who’d a thought huh?” she asked with a bright smile, trying to hide how apprehensious about it she was. “Us goin’ up against two gladiators…man it’s gonna be tough.”
"You and Roy are pretty tough too, though," Shoon said, "Roy wasn't the prince's double for nothing." Shoon himself wasn't apprehensive at all, if he won, he won, if he lost he lost, he knew he was good, but he also knew that were those who were better than he was, and that sometimes there were bad days. He smiled at Faylen, talking about fighting made him less nervous about stuff like dates.
Faylen giggled a little again, “Roy bein’ able to fight didn’t have as much to do with that as him lookin’ a lot like the prince.” She was more worried about the tournament than Shoon just because the only reason she’d entered was because Roy did, and the line up was making her nervous.
"Oh, that too..." Shoon looked away, feeling a little embrassed that he hadn't thought about that. He must have fighting on the brain or something. "Still, he's not bad, hope he doesn't eat too much candy before the match though."
“Yeah,” Faylen agreed. “I’d ask ya to not hurt him too bad, but I don’t want ya to take it easy on us either.” She found a little shelf in the stable to set the apples and put all of them except the one she was eating down. “We haven’t even sparred together so this should be interestin’”
Shoon blinked, "You haven't practiced yet? That's not good! You should get him to practice with you first thing! Morgan and I have been sparring everyday plus our usual work outs." He set his apples down as well and took a few of the red ones and went over to the nearest horse. "Hey, Slow Dancer," he cooed at the horse and held out his hand, keeping it flat so that the horse didn't bite him on accident.
“No, that’s not what I meant,” Faylen said lightly. “Roy ‘n me have been fighting together forever we don’t need ta practice much more…I meant we’ve, you and me, never sparred.” She trailed off as Shoon started cooing at the horse. “oo it’s so pretty,” she said, reaching out to pet it, not knowing anything about how to approach a horse.
"Oh...yeah..." Shoon felt dumb, "Well, we did have that combo with Lu," he watched as Faylen reached out, "Carefull, don't spoke him, they can spoked easily. And you never want to stand behind them either."
Faylen paused her hand, looking over at him. “How do ya not spook him?” she asked. “I don’t know much ‘bout horses.” She bit her lip looking a bit sheepish at that admission.
"Well, you don't run at 'em, for one. Also don't make really fast movements. And don't do anything they don't like, though with that one, you need to do trial and error," he grinned sheepishly at her. "I nearly got kicked in the head once 'cause I was rubbing one guy's ear, and he didn't like it." He took her by the rest and took her to the next horse and put the apple in her hand, "Here. Now, hold your hand flat so he doesn't bite."
Faylen listened intently to the information. She thought horses were pretty but she’d never been around them that often and hadn’t ridden one before so this was all knew information. She let Shoon lead her to the next horse and offered the apple to it. She smiled wide as the horse leaned it’s head down to sniff at the apple and started to eat it from her hand.
Grinning, Shoon said, "See, not so bad huh?" He went over to the next horse and feed her an apple, "They might bite you sometimes, but they don't bite too hard, and their teeth are flat so it can't break skin."
Faylen put her hand to her mouth and giggled as the horses lips and teeth tickled the palm of her hand. “This isn’t too hard,” she said, reaching out again to lightly pet the horse behind the ears. “He’s so soft!”
Shoon nodded, "Their noeses are they're softest part, but Kathy keeps them fed with a hay that keeps their coats silky." He stroked the neck of the mare he was feeding. "Most of them are really nice. Some of the studs and stallions have tempers, but most of them are nice."
Faylen kept petting the horses mane quite happy with the world. “Do ya know their names?” she asked Shoon curious about her new friend that was leaning into her caress.
"Some," Shoon admitted, moving onto the next horse, "Not all, this is Midnight, he's sir Percival's and you're currently petting Phoenix, who belongs to Captain Chris"
“Hello Phoenix!” Faylen all but chirped at the horse, who had just finished its apple. “Do you help out in the stables lots, Shoon?” she asked moving away from Phoenix and over towards Midnight.
"Sometimes, if I have time," Shoon said, "And if they're behaving. If they haven't grazed for awhile they get antsy, and then bite more."
“Ahh,” Faylen said nodding in understanding. “Have ya ever ridden one?”
"Nope," Shoon said as he fed another one, "I'm not much of rider, I perfer my own two feet to get me from one place to the next."
Faylen shrugged looking a little disappointed. “I’ve never ridden a horse either…it looks pretty cool though.”
"Yeah it does. Remember how cool Dinn looked on his horse?" Shoon asked, trying to make conversation. He wondered, briefly, what he would look like on a horse, he was too short to look cool. "You would look pretty cool on horse," he told Faylen.
Faylen smiled a blushed at the compliment. “Yeah Dinn looked awesome…I wouldn’t look that cool. It would be fun though.”
"It would be hard to fight with your weapon though," Shoon said, "You might have to take a sword." Swords weren't hard to use, there was a reason why swords were used the most, Shoon himself was decent swordsman, nothing on the level of Rahal, Belcoot, or Georg, but on the battle feild he could hold his own.
“Hmmm,” Faylen said looking at Midnight and trying to picture it. “I don’t know…I mean, most people on horses use swords so ya might be right but…” she broke off tilting her head as she thought. “I think I could do it! It might go farther with the added height too.”
Shoon pictured Faylen dressed like lady Chris, "I think you could do it. It would hard work, but it might be useful someday."
Faylen didn’t have the same mental image but she still beamed at Shoon. “Maybe I should find someone ta teach me…I wonder if Roy would wanna learn too…”
"Maybe Belcoot could, he's a great swordsman. I dunno 'bout Roy." He tried to picture Roy with a sword, "Swords are easy to use, and he could use one, but I don't think he would enjoy it as much as some would."
Faylen looked at Shoon a little confused before laughing again. “No silly, I mean riding,” she said kindly. “Can you imagine how far the boomerang would go with that much height!” One of the horses backed up at the volume of her voice. “Sorry,” she whispered back to it hoping that would be enough.
"Oh, well, yeah," now Shoon was feeling really stupid now, "Well, it would go far, but when you're on a horse, it would be hard for it to come back to your hand. And I really can't see Roy on a horse. You need to respect the horse..." he trailed off, waving his hand vaguely, hoping that sounded somewhat intelligent.
Faylen didn’t think Shoon was stupid, she was feeling kinda stupid herself now for spooking the horses. “Yeah that’s true…” she said very quietly overcompensating for the loud volume earlier. “I s’pose me and him don’t have to do everything together. He’d probably get thrown before doing anything.”
Shoon wanted to laugh at that image, but knew that now wasn't the time, "Yeah, he probably would." He walked over to Faylen and coaxed the horse back over, crooning at it gently.
Faylen watched fascinated and impressed as Shoon got the horse back over to them. “Wow, you’re good at this.”
Shoon smiled, "I love animals," he said, "They're really easy to communicate with, except goats. Goats can be jerks." he turned to Faylen. "I've always been able to connect with animals, even back when I was in the arena pens."
Faylen looked at Shoon, sadly creasing her eyebrows. “Did you…get to see many animals back then?”
"Rats, mostly," Shoon said, "but if you gave them some food they left the rest alone. Sometimes there were snakes, and those giant snails, but normally, just the rats and mice. Oh, and the cats, but those were some mean cats they had."
Faylen looked more sad as Shoon explained. For as bad as her childhood had been, Shoon definitely had had it worse. “It’s nice that ya get to be with lots more different animals now,” she said trying to bring things away from the sad topic.
Shoon nodded, "Yeah, it's great, and working with Kidd as a pet detective is great. I never imagined there would be so many animals." He smiled, "I'm really happy now," he said.
“I’m glad!” Faylen said smiling again. “If ya ever want to talk to any of my animals you always can. Charlie and Supercow love people.”
"Thanks, that will be great," Shoon shot her a grin. "I still can't believe you named 'im Supercow though."
“What? Supercow is an awesome name for a squirell-mouse!” Faylen pouted good naturedly. “And that one guy who says he could talk to ‘im said he liked it! Thought it sounded cool!”
Shoon rolled his eyes in an extragrated way, "Whatever." He said as he fed the last red apple to the last horse, then went over to the green apple that he got for himself and took a bite. "But, if you like it, that's ok."
Faylen beamed again, enjoying herself and this mock argument. “I do…Supercow and Charlie are both awesome names…ya know, I never though I would get a pet and now I got two…it’s kinda nifty.”
"Yeah, this place is great, everyone has a new beginning here. I love it here. It's more like a home then Falena ever was." He paused, he had never really said that out loud to anyone.
“Yeah, it kinda is,” Faylen said agreeing. She had never been that attached to Falena. She liked it sure, but she hadn’t felt that bad when she left for the northern continent after Roy. “I still gotta wonder why we’re here, but I think it’s ok that we are.”
"I think there are somethings you just gotta take at face value," Shoon said, "And this is one of them." He headed towards the door, "Well, that's all the apples, and it's almost dinner time." he turned to the horses, "Bye guys, see you soon!"
“Bye bye horsies!” Faylen called out when they reached the door waving largely. “See ya real soon!” She turned back around and looked up at the sky for a sense of the time. “Yeah, it’s gotta be getting late…I should probably find Roy ‘nd make sure he eats something besides candy tonight.”
"Yeah, that would be a good idea, so he won't get sick in the match," Shoon said, "tell him his teeth will fall out too if he eats too much."
“I tell ‘im that all the time! He won’t listen!” Faylen complained. “Oh yeah, we gotta get ready for the match too. I know it’s supposed to be surprise, but just let us know when you two are ready and we can set a time for it.”
"Will do," Shoon said, "Good luck!" he said and then headed back to his and Morgan's cabin.
“See ya, Shoon!” Faylen said, before running back to the manor and looking for Roy.
