I'm so excited to be kicking off this year's Halloween round robin. Here's the first chapter, featuring a dark and stormy night, Howard's inner angst, and the disappearance of an old friend...

OH NO MY HEART. I literally actually clutched at my chest. What a gloriously ominous opener for a Hallowe'en Special! I HOPE THEY RESCUE CHARLIE. (I am honestly ludicrously concerned about the fate of a pink bubblegum monster). There are so many little things about this that deserve commenting on, but it is late and I am tired, so for now I will just say: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH *clutches face*

Thank you! I HOPE THEY RESCUE CHARLIE, TOO! Ha, it's really a great feeling to break a thing and leave it up to other writers to fix ;-) I love Charlie, though, that's why I picked him! Well, and he's up there on my list of 'Boosh creatures that creep me out', probably ranked just under the Crack Fox and the Milky Joe coconuts.

You shouldn't be afraid! I mean, a little nervousness is natural -- I was certainly second-guessing my story ideas and hoping they'd measure up to past Halloween of Doom opening chapters -- but having participated in a couple of these round robins now I've learned to just write what's most fun for me and not worry about how it stacks up to the other chapters. Other people's writing always looks looks better than my own writing because I can't see how many times they tweaked that sentence before just giving up and moving on. ;-)

Thank you! Imaginary-friends-who-aren't-quite-imaginary are definitely a horror staple that creeps me out, so the Charlie idea came to me pretty quickly. It was a bit nerve-wracking to start the round robin this year, but I'm glad I got the chance because I've been having a ball watching where the story is going. Thanks for commenting!
