Guppies are very prolific...however, the fry are often eaten by the adults so a lot of natural selection occurs. If you want babies to mature, make sure there is a lot of places they can hide from the big ones like in dense plants and such. I kept guppies for many years and love them, especially some of the fancier kind.
One dead guppy won't raise nitrite levels much...is there a lot of plant decomposition?Or maybe too much decomposing food?
How big is your tank? Is it aerated and filtered?

No, I don't, actually. I took the fish on because they came to school as part of a study on living things. No one wanted the last one. Of course, I would get the pregnant one!
It has a bubbler, and a natural filter. I think it needs a good cleaning again (although that didn't help last time). I might even try some distilled water this time, too, to see if that makes a difference. And get a feeder fish.
I hate to see them die. Knowing they suffer with the toxicity bothers me. I don't like to see any animal suffer.
