I don't disagree with you but I see the side of the athletes. They've trained for their spots on the team for the last umpty-five years, they've given up their lives to be 'on the team'. In four more years they may be too old to compete.

I am with you, hoping that all the athletes of every nation stay safe. I remember the 1972 Olympics, I remember crying right along with Jim McKay when the athletes were kidnapped and murdered and wondering where Mark Spitz was (spirited away, thank goodness).

The President said he'd though about boycotting until he talked to several Olympic athletes.

But as I said, I don't necessarily disagree with you. I'm just hoping for the best.

I really do try to understand the point of the athletes. However, I see it from the viewpoint of a parent/child situation....the child might want something so bad, they can practically taste it, but the parent knows it's not good for them and takes it away. I think there's a lot more we don't know about this situation, stuff the CIA and Obama are privvy to. I'm glad he was listening earnestly to our athletes, but I wish he'd remained firm in his hesitancy to send them.

For once, Obama and I find some small piece of common ground.

I'm on the fence about this but I agree with Lynn's response. Many of the the athletes have given their all and their lives to prepare for this and will be too old after this Olympics... It's a hard call to make, though but I do hope that the security in place will be just what is needed to deter any terrorist acts.
Hoping for the best in this...

I really do understand the plight of the athletes, but if they are killed, then there is no hope of any future.

I will be praying constantly and with all my heart. This situation really has me very concerned and uneasy. Like you, I cling to hope.
