Now and then I might get a "blah" day when I either don't feel good because of my fibromyalgia, or I'm in a "devil-be-damned" mood where I just don't care about much. It's rare for me to have days when I just can't find some silver lining in the clouds, but today was just that.  Thoroughly crappy

Oh my. I don't know what to say since you've pretty much covered it all. That is just so wrong...how can people be so dishonest? That guy knew he was selling Dave an old and useless machine and that in and of itself is a scam.
But without the evidence...I think you're doing the right thing calling everybody and notifying the exchanges etc. I wish the incident hadn't affected you this way...

I wish there was something I could do.

I know, and you're a darling for wanting to help. It does help to have your support.

I just hope this guy will be thwarted before he hurts anyone else. On the other hand, if he does this to the wrong person...someone with money who can sue him, it would be better for him to spend some in the hoosgow.

I am sorry to hear your daughters went through that. People are so selfish nowadays. And many obviously haven't been taught to be honorable and to repay debts. It's appalling.
