Game Specific Info
Why do you want to play this character here? Since I was a little girl, I had a deep fondness for Batman and his world. I used to watch the animated series almost religiously every time it was on the TV and continued with its spin-offs including Justice League. A few years ago, I began diving headfirst into comic books, starting with Harley Quinn and other of Gotham's finest. Then I managed to branch out into the Justice League where I found the JLI and Booster Gold. What's interesting about Booster IMO is that he was born and raised in Gotham about a thousand years in the future. He is, by definition, a Gothamite and Gotham hero and yet is one of the flashiest guys around. Nonetheless, I feel that he has a lot of depth especially with the new run on the Booster Gold series that goes into a lot of detail of his traumas, past, etc. and even his run-ins with some of Gotham's finest. I like Booster for his contradictions; that he's a shiny gold lightning rod from Gotham, that he's a really good guy pretending to be a jerk, that he's a future boy trying to fit in with the times. I like the complexity and challenge he offers and yet I can also have fun with his personality as he knows how to let loose too when putting his trust in someone dear.
Why do you believe this character fits into this game’s setting? As I've said before, Booster was born and raised in Gotham, so he has familial roots in the city. He can recognize some of the old landmarks and grim dark atmosphere. He knows the Batman legend, he knows the heroes, and even though it's not his favorite place to be, it's his home town. In a way, bringing him back would be as close as I could get to 'the prodigal son returns' and I can play with his feelings concerning the city and its folk especially since it's so much part of a past that he's been trying to repress all his life. I understand that Booster Gold is flashy and is considered by the majority of the super hero (and some comic book nerd) population as a joke, but he does have more layers than 'flashy jerk wants to make money'. He honestly does want to do good that does not involve getting constantly screwed over when trying to protect the time stream. I think going back to his roots, being reduced to beating up street-level criminals would be an interesting character study of Booster. Basically, he's being brought back to when he WAS just starting out, but with all the knowledge and tricks he's learned over the years. How he deals with this 'demotion' would be interesting. Plus, his title right now is seriously one of the most fucking depressing things out there right now. You can't get more grim dark than that (OK, so maybe Tim has him on that).
What are your plans for your character in this game? (Again, taking parts from the other two sections) I'd like to explore Booster's feelings concerning the city itself and what it means to return home again and be stripped of his cosmic responsibilities in the DC universe. I want to play out how he reacts to being stuck in virtually his WORST nightmare (the past, a constant reminder of his failures, etc.). I want him to be relieved, gradually accept what has happened and maybe even like some of the weight off his shoulders. It would also be nice for him to bring honor to his name again. With no Rip, he doesn't have anyone telling him to act a certain way to protect the time stream. He can be himself finally and change people's perceptions of who Booster Gold is. Of course, the next best thing is also the interactions with other characters here especially those from his canon that know what he has been up to and also people from his past coming back up to haunt him. I think this RPG would be a very pleasant mindfuck for Booster and DC Comics just loves shitting on the guy, so why not?
Writing Samples
Log/Third Person Sample: Life was almost looking up--as much as they could look up to in Booster's situation now. Michelle had forgiven him for Coast City even though he was still having a hard time trying to forgive himself. He knew Rip's spiel by heart now--the past was solidified time. Most, if not all, events must happen to insure the present and the future are still intact. He still felt like a chum though and it was a blessing that no one knew what he was up to nowadays. If anyone figured out he could travel through time again and virtually change catastrophic events or the death of loved ones--
There were at least some lives he could save like the accidental death of a girl's dog in one of Booster's show off fights with C-List villains. That almost made it OK. Almost.
He really could not look anywhere, but the future. It always came down to the future. He tried to escape it once, but it kept pulling him back for jobs left undone. At least he had Michelle and Skeets by his side still. If ever taken from him again, he might just crumble and say screw the mission, screw Rip, screw everything. It wouldn't be worth it if he had to endure so much heartache and reminders of his failures.
Coincidentally enough, just as he had this particularly depressing thought, he blinked and he was suddenly standing on the Gotham streets. He yelped, quickly taking off into the air before a truck could make him into Booster Gold roadkill. He narrowed his eyes at the driver, honking and shaking his fist out the window at the damned capes. Whatever, didn't matter. Booster flew to a roof top and touched ground. Time to assess the situation.
Booster couldn't have triggered anything on his suit. He was usually careful about that. He pressed a few keys on his wrist, trying to contact Rip back at HQ, but he got nothing except static. OK, that wasn't good. He tried calling Skeets, then Michelle, and he got the same static. He tried to rationalize that his suit was on the fritz. Rip was always keeping tabs on Booster, so he should be there soon with his time bubble.
Which was another issue he had to check out--was year was it? The thing about his schtick is that this wouldn't be the first time he would have been pulled into another year altogether. He flew off the roof and onto the streets, looking for newspaper dispensers.
"April 27, 2010?" Booster swore under his breath. It was only about a week in the future. What gives? Was there something here he should be stopping? Did someone pull him here? He looked over his shoulder as if whoever brought him there was going to say "HEY!"
He didn't like this. He didn't like Gotham. It made his skin crawl to remember everything that transpired there. If it wasn't his childhood or his days in college, it was Barbara. It was his inability to save her and stop the Joker from crippling her for life. It was Ted's home that he remembered exactly where it was. It was Batman, who was still a jerk for throwing Ted's goggles in his face (though may they both rest in peace). It was the smell, the darkness, the looming buildings, the blaring noise, even the people.
Booster ducked into an alley way. He could contact Oracle. She would give him a heads up. Now it was just a matter of how to contact her when his communication devices were virtually shut down. Leaning against the side of the building, he slid down to the floor not minding the garbage and dirt. If someone wanted him, they could come find him.
Journal Entry/First Person Sample: I can't believe I'm doing this, but with my recent rise to fame, there's been some rumors circulating in the press. Some are from my adoring fans, but with every few hundred fans, there's a few bad eggs jealous and wanting a piece of the Booster action.
So, this is for them,
One, I am not, I repeat, NOT gay!! I am very flattered by some of the fan mail I've received from my male fans, but I swear to you, Booster is all about the ladies.
Two, by the by, I'm single. FOR LADIES.
Three, I am not a Green Lantern. I have never been a Green Lantern. I will never BE a Green Lantern.
Four, I'm not any of the other rainbow lanterns either.
Five, I am not the king of Rock and Roll come back from the dead or the Fonz though I greatly admire both men.
EYYYY!
Six, I'm--there's no six, but I am always available to answer more questions and squash rumors exaggerating my fabulous exploits.
