Author's Notes: The idea for this has been rattling around in my skull for something like probably over a year now and I was just now glancing over my Big Damn List and realizing maybe I should just write the damn thing. That said, I'm not actually happy with the quality of this. When I got the idea it was like an emotional sucker-punch and I'm not sure that's carried over but can't think how to change it.

"Now then, class, if you could please turn to the next section of your text, we'll continue our study of some of the twenty and twenty-first century's lesser known heroes. Last period we had just finished the section on Fire, less commonly known as Green Flame. Today, we'll move on to the superhero duo of Blue and Gold.
"No, that wasn't their official name, it was mostly a media contrivance. They were actually the Blue Beetle and Booster Gold. And--What? Well it may seem like an unusual name to us, but many superheroes of the time had unusual and/or color-based names. It--Please raise your hand to ask questions.
"I see. Yes, but while I have heard of those accounts that his name was actually an accident, I'm afraid they are so far only apocryphal.
"Continuing, this pair enjoyed a lengthy partnership, despite their numerous falling outs. While perhaps not the most successful of superheroes, they were reputed to be among those who had the most fun at it. That isn't to say that they did not have their share of victories, of course. They participated in the preservation of the Earth on several occasions, both together and apart. And, of course, there are the rumors that their partnership extended beyond their heroic activities and various business ventures.
"Unfortunately, tragedy hit this duo during one of the early twenty-first century's crises in the form of the Blue Beetle's death. As unexpected as it was, there is speculation that is could have been prevented if--Mr. Carter?
"Mr. Carter! ...So good of you to join us. I realize the lesser known heroes aren't as exciting as some of the more well-known historical figures, but if you could at least refrain from snoring in my class, I would appreciate it.
"Now. Moving on from our overview of these heroes: unlike his predecessor, the Blue Beetle's primary weapon was not mystical, but mental. He was one of the very few unpowered heroes of that era...."
