I bet there are people who find this sweet and romantic - that he’s worried about her while he’s the one just back from hell and still physically and mentally not quite well - but to me it just feels really patronizing.

While it is totally patronizing, I have sympathy for Angel because it can be difficult to feel like you're entirely dependent on another person. Worrying about Buffy probably makes him feel less useless.
