I'm enjoying imagining the horse flu outbreak was actually started by a renegade horse who was sick of being exploited and decided to throw the whole racing industry into financial turmoil.

How cool would that be.

Not that i don't feel for the people whose lives depend on horses, but seriously, as if this much attention would be given to ANY other ( Read more... )

But Blue Healers taught me that the real story in small country towns is that there's a major murder to be solved each week!

It's rather curious the equine flu, when I went to Iceland, I visited a horse ranch and was given a tour and history of their breeding etc. The horses they breed are the same - exact same - as those originally brought there in the 11th century from Germany, because of their strict regulations. No horses are allowed into the country at all, and any that leave Iceland to race in Europe, cannot return for that matter. If such practices were shared elsewhere, then it would allow complete quarantine, no?

An ironic lesson I thought.
