Ah, the Santa Clause Parade. Everyone loves a parade, right? Even when it's all but freezing, everyone enjoys the spectacle. The gaudy floats, the shriners in their little cars, the marching bands

Oh, this takes me back! I played flute and piccolo in my high school marching band years ago -- and oh does this ring true. Thanks for this walk down memory lane. (One good thing about the flute, you can put it up your sleeve to keep it warm. The piccolo fits in the pocket of the uniform (at least it did in our uniforms -- Parsippany Hills High School Marching Band, Parsippany, NJ -- GO VIKINGS! Good luck with this and thanks for the laughter!
While I've never been in a marching band, I really liked this piece. It's simple, and the comparison between the chaos of now and the harmony of later is nice. You use a lot of good word choice and humor in the piece as well.
I never realized brass can freeze so bad it won't even play. You learn something new everyday I guess (you would think with a mom and 2 sisters and a brother who play the trumpet and a sister who plays trombone, I would have heard this before)
I really like how this is short yet a very accurate snapshot, you write so I can "see" it all, you do great with description, even in just a few words. I also feel this is a "tight" piece, you tie it all together and bring it full circle. I like that feeling when it all connects (life never does that, you know?)
Mmm, baritone. I played that (poorly) back in grade school for a while. I enjoyed it, but never tried playing it outside in a Wisconsin winter. And, although I wasn't in the band in high school, I was on the camera crew when they went to Texas. I always found it amusing in retrospect. We rode a bus from Wisconsin to Galveston, Texas, and what do we get? Thirty degree weather and snow. :-p
This piece presents an extremely accurate painting of the chaos leading up to the actual marching, as I recall, anyway. Nice job.
[Morning. Ultraviolentnom couldn’t get to your edit, so I’m filling in. My style is fairly straightforward just imagine that the [brackets] contain my red pen

Thanks very much for the feedback! I've been working very hard on my descriptions in recent years, and it's nice to know that it's paying off :)
