Numb

It's quite the paradox how we humans are thrill seekers and claim to want the most out of life and yet when we aren't on the edge we want to be numb to everything. I find this to be true in everybody, but I'm most aware of it in my closest friends and in myself. I see the tendency to avoid our problems and issues through "fixes." *shrug* We can pick and choose our excitements and numb the pain of the less wanted situations that we might be stuck with or choose not to confront. the idea seems perfectly logical to me.

Bryan,

I whole heartedly agree. Although I haven't reverted back to my usual fix recently, I think I've put other things in to replace it. I'm not sure if these things are better, but it's a start. I really need to start reading more. I have this really strange feeling that I've started living through my LJ. Whatever. There's just so much out there to read and indulge in, I need to do more. "Fixes" are definitely a problem and some are definitely more obvious (visible) than others.

I hope you can get through your fixes and confront your issues. Good luck and God bless you in your endeavors.

I know your list wasn't meant to be all-inclusive, but 'fixes' certainly are not only limited to drinking, drugs, sex, etc, etc...

A big one that you left off is religion!

That's a major fix for MANY people -- which according to not a few is a big part of the development of religion and the idea of God, to deal with (or explain) things that humans can't deal with (or explain) on their own.

But at the same time, religion isn't ALWAYS a fix. . .nor are drinking, drugs, sex, etc, etc...

And, it's good to hear your future is all over the place. :) I think that's rarely a bad thing.
