Life's Lessons

Jan 26, 2005 01:47

I'd say a good analogy to how I feel about life is to compare myself to a kid who has been held back in school. For a couple of years now I have watched all my friends learn, grow, and move onward in life while I have not. Yes, I could venture into newer uncertain waters, but I don't feel I'm ready for them nor do I feel I have learned all I need ( Read more... )

"What that lesson is I do not know, but I'm dying to learn."

I think that wasn't meant to be literal, and I don't take it entirely literally, but. . .I do think you are 'killing yourself' over some of these things.

Not that you're putting yourself in danger. But, focusing on some things while entirely forgetting others is a form of death in itself I suppose.

I don't think there are any valueable lessons in life that can be taught so much as they can be expereinced. If a million people had told me that long distance relationships were difficult and the odds of me making it work out were a billion to one (a lot of people did actually) I wouldn't have listened to a single one.

Those life lessons as you call them have to be learned by the reckless abandonment of actually doing things, sometimes repeatedly. Thats why so many people date over and over before they find the person they want to spend their lives with. I think very little can be learned by reflection of the situation from a third party perspective. You got to get into the thick of it, and a lot of times, screw up, look stupid, and feel bad. Repeatedly.

Just my two cents though.

Another analogy... cool_big_dude January 26 2005, 18:14:35 UTC
I'm not exactly sure if it works, but I'll try... Foam: if you keep it in a small area, it forms to the area, but when you put it into a larger environment, it will grow to fit the new space.... I think this may be part of your "readiness" issue. You fit in your current space, but you feel you may not fit into a new space. From my experiences, you may not feel right at first, but I grow to fill the new space I'm in. I hope I helped. May I encourage you to try new things even if you feel awkward at first...

Hello. This is kind of random...but that is me sometimes :) I coudn't sleep and looked at people who had an interest of oakland university and along came your journal..and I read what you wrote and was rather intrigued. I could say many things to what you have written but i'm just going to leave you with this quote which may or may not have any meaning to you but I thought of it when I was reading what you wrote...

"You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life."
Albert Camus
