for the life of me, i can't remember the name of a Vietnamese experimental video/filmmaker who did a whole series of videos that examined ocular diseases and disorders as a metaphor for race, (family) history, memory, and all that jazz...

anyway...reading your post made me think of her. just sayin'...

ahh...Tran T. Kim-Trang. Yeah, I've seen a couple of those pieces back in the mid 90s. The two I saw where pretty powerful, especially the one regarding "corrective" eye surgery for Asian woman wanting to have Caucasian shaped eyes. In Korea last summer I came to find out that those surgeries are still the most popular form of plastic surgery to date. Crazy, huh?

i kept thinking, and knowing it was wrong, Trinh T. Ming-Ha.

yeah, those videos was big when i was in school, too.

since i went to the most Asian school outside of Asia (UC Irvine), i was witness to all the Korean gals having that eyelid surgery!!! so i wonder how it was for those girls in my art class watching those videos, taught by my Korean prof. Yong Soon Min.
