this afternoon at the food store, i bought a bottle of wine (the aforementioned wine that i've now drunk), because the recipe i was making called for "dry, red wine." while checking out, the middle-aged cashier asked for my ID. i gave it to her, and she scrutinized it for a good long while, and finally said "'1982, huh?" she obviously thought it was fake (the fact that it's an out of state license doesn't help). "why, how old do you think i am?" i ventured. "i'd have said you're about 18," she answered. good thing i didn't tell her about the skateboard i'm planning to get.

On the train this weekend someone asked if I was waiting for my mom. She said I looked fifteen. I wanted to throttle her--FIFTEEN?? People that age don't even have their driver's permits!!!
