Hee yeah a lot of people have that reaction to S1 :) It definitely gets TONS better in the last two episodes and then S2 is just soooo much better and exciting. Jesse is my emotional connection character by far but S2 is really the one that'll bring that out. Skyler gets much better in S3 IMO but the show definitely struggles with women unfortunately. I hope you keep going and enjoy it!

Thanks! Yeah I was warned it took a bit to get into it. It definitely picked up towards the end of season so keen to settle in to season 2 now.

I think you will find Jesse more sympathetic and likeable as time goes on. Season one is hard in that yes, none of the characters are especially likeable. Walt's descent is pretty amazing tho - the "I am the danger" bit later on is awesome. I never thought Bryan Cranston could overcome being the dad on Malcom and the Middle and yet here we are.

Be aware that grotesque yet hilarious murders are something of a signature of this show.

Yeah, I find I'm enjoying the Jesse performance - he's a very real character, so I can imagine him growing on me.

I was warned about the gross factor before watching - I can put up with it but don't like it.

I felt the same way. Season 3 was hard for me, and I never really caught up on some of what I missed, but S4 was worth all of it. Hank is the only character I feel okay about loving, but Jesse definitely gets under your skin. For a while, I only watched because my S.O. did (and we live in a one-room loft), but now I'm glad that I stuck in there.

Yeah, I recently started watching, but I dropped out about part way through season 2 when I realized Hank was the only one I had any investment in, and the rest were some combination of don't care/go away/go to jail/please die now.

It's interesting to hear someone who feels the same way say that it's worth sticking it out! Most people have told me that if I'm not into it yet, I probably won't ever be.

I can't really say for sure. I mean, I'm really glad I watched S4, and in general, I'm glad I watched the show because the writing and acting are so excellent. But I don't know that I'd recommend you go back to it unless you, like me, have a huge weakness for Jonathan Banks. :)

Hank?! Seriously? I can't stand him.
Yeah, so I have mixed feelings at the moment - I am watching because people told me the plotting was amazing, so I knew the characters could take a while or be hard work. I'll see. I am glad I'm mainlining it - only way!

Yeah, I got through to about the middle of the second season, realized I was rooting for the racist cop (and wanted pretty much everyone -- but especially Walt) to get caught and go to jail. And for Walt to die AND go to jail, though not in that order.

And then I stopped watching.

Haha, that's hilarious. But yes. It's definitely a show where I'm not really rooting for the main character. Mind you I've watched seven seasons of Dexter hating Dexter so this is clearly no deterrent under the right conditions. ;) There ain't no Deb on Breaking Bad though ... we'll see. I'm watching for the plot at the moment - I can't often do that alone, but I'm kind of distanced enough at the moment to be curious to persist at least somewhat further.

Oh, I've watched all seven seasons of Dexter hoping that it ends with him dead or in jail or on the run. If he gets away, I will be VERY DISPLEASED.

Have... have you seen the send of S7? I have some feelings I need to express.

I did! I also had Feelings. :((
I think that show will destroy me (as it is Deb) but I will have to watch anyway.

I marathoned Breaking Bad and had a similar reaction at the beginning. I wasn't super into it in S1 but was interested enough to keep watching, though I did it somewhat slowly. But by S3 I was really hooked and zoomed through the rest of it, like an addict. :) I hope you enjoy the rest of the series and I'm excited for the final episodes!

Yeah, it's patchy for me still in Season 2 - some parts mesmerising, others yawn-y. But I'm committed to watching it through as I want to see what all the plotting fuss is about.
