Lately I've been thinking of what some would think of as maddening things... Getting rid of all of my t-shirts and jeans, so for then on I will no longer be a "guy" as noted in Lord Whimsy's book. My wardrobe would be forever replaced by dress shirts, and suits of all kinds. This though, alas, is very unpratical given my current living situation. ( Read more... )

And You've been posting some good comics!

As soon as someone explains to me how the hell to use GIMP, I'll post pictures of these good shows. I got some great shots from when I saw Beirut, and of Jamie Lidell and Joanna.

doing stuff to excess, no matter what it is, isn't always the best of ideas... not sure what your reasoning is behind the drastic wardrobe change, but striking a balance is a good idea, having some snappy dressy clothes for when the occasion warrants is great, but when you are just lounging about at home, or in a mosh pit, snappy dress clothes and suits are less than ideal choices... :p so keep those shirts that you love so much, and some grubby jeans around for a bit longer, eh? ;)

I don't think I'll need to worry about moshing... I tend to go to shows with very little moshing happening. :p

Getting rid of all of my t-shirts and jeans, so for then on I will no longer be a "guy" as noted in Lord Whimsy's book. My wardrobe would be forever replaced by dress shirts, and suits of all kinds. This though, alas, is very unpratical given my current living situation. There's no way I could wear a suit to my current job (working in the Student Union Dining Hall at Baldwin-Wallce College), nor could I possibly get away with getting rid of all of my t-shirts (some of them I've grown personal attachment to).

Aesthetic (re)invention is a good thing, but don't rush it. Even I have some secret "incognito" outfits reserved for those times that I need activewear (and don't want to wreck good clothes - like camping or basketball, for instance), go on chore-errands and don't wish to be recognized (grocery shopping, for example) or if I'm dealing with people who like to take advantage of others (like used car salesmen) and want to look as desperately broke/plain as possible.

Very fine points - also, as also noted in Whimsy's book, one should lay low and only break out on an irregular basis. after all, we don't want to overplay what makes us unique, otherwise, we'd become normalized.
