I feel the same way. I was also struck by a vague resemblance to Depp's version of Willy Wonka. I really liked that one. And am a HUGE fan of the Gene Wilder version. I understand that's not too common.

I like Depp & I like Burton. It's just that I'm not as enthralled by their later work as I am with their earlier work.

I didn't like the way they made Depp like either.

The first still I saw I thought I was looking at Madonna.

I just feel like that first Hatter image disregards all sense of aesthetic; it just looks gross. It actually makes me sort of angry to look at it. I expect better from both of them.
