Role In Canon: The character that seems to know what's going on more than anyone else does, who has a great deal of power but usually let's others solve the problems. Sometimes makes long, complicated plans. Also something of a trickster mentor.

Generally, Yukari seems to somehow be mischievous and whimsical while simultaneously being rather calm about the whole thing. For example in one game she basically goes around encountering every character while occasionally singing to herself, clearly enjoying the reactions she creates in who she meets. At the same time, when we see her inner thought process, its really quite serious, though she does have her own unusual quirks and generally sees the world differently from the average human. There is an odd sort of tranquility in Yukari that is apparent even when she seems to be acting spontaneously. Again, this is because she is simply not human, and furthermore has lived a very long time.
That said, Yukari is rarely cruel, even when she is bothering people through various antics that to her sometimes aren't antics (but usually are). At one point in canon a character does something that draws Yukari's ire, yet when the situation is finished Yukari claims to quite willing to forgive the other person, as long as they do something worthy of that forgiveness. Of course, she says this in a fairly oblique fashion by referring to a proverb, but the sentiment is still there.
Yukari is rather devoted to her current homeland of Gensokyo; although she rarely takes an active role in protecting it, due to both laziness and knowing that others can handle it, she very much ensures that it remains mostly the way it always does. This is because she enjoys the nature of the place; as it is a paradise for the supernatural, where they can coexist with humans. It is something that is unique, and therefore worth preserving. However, being a long lived being, Yukari is likely to react to being suddenly spirited away from Gensokyo with little more than annoyance, particularly if there is no active malevolence involved in said spiriting away. Indeed, she might view it as a temporarily enforced vacation if the place is interesting enough.
In short, Yukari is primarily motivated by self-satisfaction. Whether its weaving a complex plot for some small reward, messing around with other beings, sleeping for seasons on end, or even just enjoying a sunset, these things all in their own way provide enjoyment and excitement in her very long life. She can also take pleasure in helping others, although she rarely does so directly. She is sympathetic however to those with emotional or ability-related problems; one of her closest companions is the ghost of a girl that committed suicide because of her powers over death. (Granted, she knew the girl when she was alive and the girl lost her memory when she became a ghost, but the fact that she decided to continue the friendship even beyond the grave speaks volumes).
Abilities: Species traits include flight and regeneration from most, if not all, forms of attacks. As a magical being, she really only eats and drinks because she enjoys it and is immune to things that only affect humans. She is also capable of firing swarms of magical projectiles -known in Gensokyo as danmaku. She has spellcards that allow her to fire specific patterns of these projectiles, as well as perform other, more offensive spells (as seen in the fighting games).
Her stated ability is manipulation of boundaries, which is somewhat vaguely defined. At the very least, she can open portals or gaps from one place to another, pull things from elsewhere, including a collection of things she keeps in her gaps for that purpose, and create powerful barriers. Anything beyond this will require player or mod permission.
At most...well, any two opposed concepts can be said to have a boundary. Canonically she turned a pool reflecting the moon into an actual portal to the moon by manipulating the boundary between fantasy and reality. Some other boundaries she has include life and death, wave and particle,and human and youkai. A common fan belief is that the only limitations she has are the ones she imposes on herself.
