Who do I want to read this? and who actually does read it? I've never really known. The latter is probably out of my control, since this is posted publicly on the Internet, but it seems like I should know something about the former. Speak to your audience, right?

I like to think I write for myself, but at the same time I know if I didn't have a livejournal I probably wouldn't write at all. It's egotistical, but I like being someone who writes, and I think the knowledge that someone is checking their friends page and reading my entries makes me hold myself to a higher standard than I would otherwise. I'm glad my livejournal exists because by writing I get a chance to, I guess, explore certain thoughts in a way I wouldn't really get to if I was only thinking - writing forces me to organize what my thoughts and take them further than they go by themselves when they pop into my head while I'm trying to go to sleep ( ... )

Nam, I always enjoy reading your journal because, whereas others (at least of friends I read) mostly only recount and comment, you think and analyze and synthesize and entertain, all with a little bit of flair and catchy language. Perhaps ironically, you rarely bore. Though your posting schedule seems inconsistent at times, it never bothers me because I never have doubt that when you do write, it's going to be at least two steps up from just about everything else I read from peers' blogs.

You have again not let me down. This is easily my favorite blog post about blogging I've ever read. As someone who's dabbled in having a personal web-site, writing critical work, both serious and silly blogging, Flickr, and more, I relate to the frustrating dynamic of "audience" and "purpose" more than you'd probably guess.

I guess what I'm trying to get at is: locked or unlocked, profile link or no profile link, it's safe to count me in as part of your audience.
