Screenwriting 101

I just wasted two hours of my life watching a horror movie on tv.

While I liked part of the premise, a teen girl who foresees disastrous fatal accidents just before they happen, this movie was one of the worst I've ever seen. M and I kept debating whether or not to turn it off, but we persisted because we wanted to see what happened.

Great post.

At least you only *really* lost one hour of your life to that movie due to Daylight Savings. :)

Good point. Thanks! :-)

I love the books of Stephen King and Dean Koontz. They would never make those mistakes.

But don't movies and TV... slatts November 7 2011, 14:51:39 UTC
...do this ALL THE TIME?

I'm always watching stuff and going "Ooops, writer's strike!" or "You didn't figure the ending out for this one either-how do they let you make a movie with such an unfinished script?"

But teen horror has got to be the WORST, imho.

It's body count, that's it.

If so, that could explain why I don't usually like teen horror. And why I find it hard to find a tv show I like. There are more channels than ever and less worth watching.

I can't believe teens actually like being patronized so much.

Much of tv is still suffering from the writers' strike from several years ago, in my opinion. It's so much easier and cheaper to just throw together a bunch of people and call it a reality show than to hire a writer who can create good dialogue and a real plot.

This is so true! I'm always telling my students: don't kill your protagonist! If you get rid of him...then he can't suffer anymore (and that's the writer's job...)
