Rose stewed in the bathtub with the light off. She read her novel by candlelight as the violin played gently in the background. The ultimate in goth luxuries.
But just as she had engrossed herself in the adventures of two lovers who lived together and solved crimes, the door swung open, and Jade stood silhouetted in the hallway light.
Rose was not surprised. Jade had already shown a disrespect of closed doors, probably because she had no one to keep out though Rose’s frown had convinced her to turn the lights back off. They stood bathed in the glow of six lavender scented candles until Jade shucked off her clothes and climbed into the tub.
Rose pulled her feet back in surprise as tub water sloshed all over the floor. Jade wiggled into a comfortable position, causing her foot to slide precariously close to Rose. Once the water had stopped moving, Rose settled back and tried to do some reading, but she was once again interrupted.
John walked into the bathroom lulled into a false sense of security by the darkness. When he saw the two of them in the tub, he jumped. He had been in the process of unbuckling his belt, and Rose cocked an eyebrow.
“Are you trying to seduce me, Mr. Egbert,” Rose said, slyly.
“That’s what your mom said,” countered Dave who had been walking past, carrying a plate of nachos.
“That is what your mom said,” Rose added. Dave grimaced, thoroughly defeated, and kept walking.
Five minutes later, Dave opened the door, his hand covered in cheese, looking as if he had murdered a cheesy bovine mascot. It had uddered its last laugh, apparently. He then proceeded to wash his hands for twenty minutes, fooling no one. John turned his head to watch him from his perch on the toilet seat. John continued his train of thought.
“Anyway, I think I don’t think that Nic Cage would look good in a beard,” he answered resolutely, “even if he is playing a wizard.” Though he was the house’s resident expert, Rose knew the true mark of a good wizard. A presence of grace, wisdom and silken smooth beard hairs. She let him have his point however. She would take the point later when he let his guard down.
“I think I’m getting pruny anyway,” Rose said, lifting a foot into the air to inspect it. The other three occupants tried to assist her by eyeing it as well.
“Perhaps we can finish this conversation in the bedroom?” She asked, donning her rob. They all trailed after her to the bedroom. But once inside, they found they weren’t very interested in conversation.
