'i don't tell anyone about the way you hold my hand...'

(in the spirit of that 'post what interests me when it interests me instead of five months later' motto I have adopted)

OMFG. I was just talking about weird ships with failegaidin and how Alexis/Ryan is my crack!ship…AND THEN THIS.

WHY ARE HER BOOBS SO CLOSE TO HIS FACE? WHY IS HE HOLDING HER LEG LIKE THAT? I CAN’T EVEN. *HEAD!SPLODES*

I’m trying to be unbiased here, as much as I can. Shippers often get accused of being over-invested in their ship and hating relationships for no reason other than it interfering with their OTP. But I think my qualms are justified, and I don’t think I can be dismissed as a rabid illogical shipper, given my response to previous relationships on the show.

Going based on memory:

Beckett and her ex in season 1. I was nervous when I heard an ex-boyfriend was to feature in this ep, the one with the kidnapped daughter. But it impressed me so much the way they wrote it! I didn’t hate this guy at all, I thought it was understandable why Beckett would’ve been with him and I thought the dissolution of their relationship was also written in a very realistic way that didn’t blame anyone, and when they either kissed or almost kissed (it’s been a while, I can’t remember), I wasn’t screaming, ‘OH HELL NO, GTFO’.

Beckett and Demming in season 2. I really didn’t like him. But that was more the actor, who I found a bit smarmy and also had been in BSG, bad memories. The character was a decent dude who was great to work with, very helpful with the investigation, and I liked that he asked Castle about him and Beckett, not wanting to ‘step on any toes’, before he pursued her. See! This is how you write a relationship outside the OTP, you make them likeable instead of demonizing them. I admit to not liking the relationship AT ALL, but I understood why Beckett would go out with him and he was such a gentleman. I actually felt bad for him when Beckett broke up with him, after planning their romantic getaway weekend, poor fella.

Castle and Alexis’ mom. I really found this chick so endearing! She was totally cray-cray, but so funny and likeable! I know if I had to interact with her, I’d go nuts in no time, but for the span of this one ep, she was a lively presence who was just bubbly and fun. I had nothing at all against her, although I’m glad she wasn’t in the series too long, because she was so flighty and irresponsible and I couldn’t see her in a stable, long-term relationship with Castle and doing justice as a mother to Alexis.

Castle and…Phoebe? (Alyssa Milano’s character) I also really liked this chick as well, I thought she was very sweet, the only problem I had was that she was engaged to marry another guy and she and Castle were smooching away on the roof-top! Wtf, noooo! Infidelity will never be one of my kinks! Jeez, Castle, mitts off! IDC if you’re star-crossed lovers, that’s so uncool. But it was nice at the end of the ep when she got married after all and Beckett and Castle were there, and she caught the bouquet!

Castle and the chick who was originally going to play Beckett in the movie. Really loathed her. Don’t think you can blame this on my shipper tendencies, because she was such a skank, sleeping with Castle to get ahead in her job? UGH. *stabs* I hate that she hurt him, I know he put a good face on it and recommended her for the job, but it was such a low blow and it was utterly despicable to use him like that.

Castle and Gina. Oy vey. This…came out of nowhere. I didn’t buy it at all. AT ALL. It totally seemed like he just got with her out of loneliness/jealousy at Beckett and Demming. To be fair, the woman herself did nothing objectionable, but…the relationship was so suss, just no. It seemed like Castle had figured out his feelings for Beckett in s2, he had these expressions of wistfulness and regret and his heart was pretty much on his sleeve, so the Gina thing seemed like a rebound.

And then Josh. Can I just say, *headdeskwallfloor* x infinity! If Castle figured it out earlier, Beckett DEFINITELY did by the season 2 finale. She knew she was in love with him, she wanted to give it a go, she’s on the verge of confessing her feelings…and then Gina shows up. Okay. Ouch.

And let me just say, as crushing as it was, mother and I were practically ROFL’ing over the team’s collective sadface.

So then season 3 comes around and…oh, huh, Beckett’s in a stable, long-term relationship with another guy? REALLY? I mean…that’s…look, I don’t begrudge her happiness. If it ain’t with Castle, that sucks for me as a shipper, but I love her, so okay. The thing is that this was so ridic on an emotional level- she was in love with Castle. And she’s with another man? I can understand her being dejected at Castle being with his ex-wife, thinking that he’s not for her, that even if he were single, he’s too much of a playboy and she can’t rely on him and their friendship is more important, blah blah blah. But to go out and immediately be in a relationship with another guy for pretty much the whole third season, are you kidding me? People can’t just turn off their feelings that fast! It doesn’t work like that! It seems like she’s using him, which leaves an icky taste in my mouth.

My problem with Josh is that by this stage, Castle and Beckett clearly know that they love each other and have come close to admitting it- and each time, Josh turns up and she goes back to her relationship with him. I didn't mind Demming because Beckett didn't seem fully aware of her feelings for Castle, but then she broke up with him for Castle, and now it just seems super contrived that she's with another dude. If she’d been in denial or whatever, okay, that’s fine, but she had faced her feelings, sacrificed what could’ve been a happy relationship with a handsome, charming, devoted man to find out what it could be like with Castle, and then she promptly rebounds onto another man?

AND SHE KEEPS GOING BACK TO HIM. I can’t get over this.

(please excuse my laziness- should've cropped the bottom, but forgot and cbf going and doing it now)

LOOK AT HER FACE. IS THAT THE EXPRESSION OF A WOMAN WITH THE MAN SHE LOVES?

By constantly embroiling Beckett and Castle in alternate relationships with people they clearly don’t care about whole-heartedly, it cheapens it, seriously, in my eyes.

People have said that it would kill the show for them to get together at this stage. I don’t like the way that the only options seem to be Castle/Beckett becomes canon or Castle and Beckett keep dating third parties. I mean, jeez, it’s not like it’s unheard of to be single! It’s not a horrible stigma or anything! In fact, considering their profession (well, Beckett’s profession, Castle’s…IDEK, hobby is too casual to describe what he does!), it makes more sense that they wouldn’t have a lot of time for romance! Isn’t it a thing that divorce is so much higher among law enforcement officers because they’re practically married to their jobs and often get called away without warning and such? I would find it more realistic and certainly less aggravating and less inconsistent with their characters if they weren’t always getting with someone new (or old, in Castle’s case) for the sake of drama.

Josh’s constant cockblocks are beyond the realm of belief, honestly. His bad timing is so annoyingly consistent it’s practically as immutable as gravity. This show’s writing is 99% brilliant and then they have something as stupidly contrived as him always turning up just as Castle’s about to profess his love for Beckett. ARGH.

My opinion is that the writers jumped the gun with Beckett and Castle falling in love. It happened mid-season 2, FFS. In a perfect world governed by my wishes, they would’ve been just friends for at least three seasons, with their lovely bond and witty banter and occasional moments that could be construed as deeper feelings, without it being confirmed. But since that’s not what happened, what I’d like to see from here on out? Lose the random third party relationships. No more of that. There’s a certain point where the audience gets SICK of being jerked around and loses interest.

This is what happened with me with House/Cuddy. Shipped them for five seasons and then by the time they became canon, I didn’t care any more, the show’d crapped all over it too much for me to squee. Same with Sam/Jack. Indications are that it became canon, if not precisely in the show, at least in outtakes like Sam saying she had a man back home and with a photo of Jack in her belongings. But the show vacillated over them for so long- I was the most hardcore S/J shipper but when season 8 rolled around and all that crap happened with…whatisname, Pete? And then she went to his cabin to sort out their relationship but he was with another woman? Something? I WAS JUST SICK OF IT, UGH.

I really don’t want this to happen with Castle/Beckett. The show needs to stop shoving in random love interests to keep them apart. I think human nature is enough for that. They have such a strong friendship that they’ll naturally be reluctant to mess with it, in case their feelings aren’t reciprocated- or worse, if they are, but they start a relationship and it doesn’t work out and they lose each other. Beckett’s prob convinced he’s a playboy and will only break her heart and move onto another woman. Not saying it’s fair, because I don’t see him in that light, but you wouldn’t blame her for thinking it or using it as an excuse to run from her feelings. And…IDK, I’m not a writer, it’s their job to work out motivations, but I can see them just being determined to hold onto their friendship and not going past that.

I just think that people tune in for a) Castle/Beckett flirty banter, b) awesome team/family dynamics and c) the cases and wacky twists as they investigate them. I doubt anyone tunes in for either of the leads hooking up with some other person who they’ll inevitably break up with.

The show needs to focus on the first three elements. Enough with the jerking around, honestly, ‘coz if this continues for another season or two, I’m going to give up in frustration. I don’t need Castle/Beckett to happen now, but the writers trivializing their love for each other by making them get with other people as if it doesn’t matter at all has to stop.

I’m just really tired of Castle making woobie!faces at Beckett. Damn it. Enough with the angst, this is Castle, it’s meant to be fun!

Un-frakking-believable: woodchoc_magnum emailed me a link to that article I think a lot of you already know about. My post may be redundant, but this is news of such magnitude I am obliged to waffle on about it. OBLIGED, I SAY.
Potential great news for Criminal Minds fans: Co-star A.J. Cook is in talks to return to the CBS crime drama next season as a regular, and she may be joined by Paget Brewster.

Speaking of Brewster, she is filming a comedy pilot for NBC, My Life As An Experiment, and will continue on the project if it goes to series. But if it doesn't, I hear Criminal Minds producers ABC Studios/CBS Studios have an option on her for the show and, if they exercise it as many expect, that would bring the cast of the show back to the way it was at the end of last season.

I had made a clean break with CM! We were OVER. I struggled through most of s6- ironically, the highest point was AJ’s last ep, it was so emotional and the case was half-decent and I was engaged- til finally giving up when mother, who was previously its biggest fan, said, ‘Mandy made the right decision in leaving. It’s all about the gore instead of plot these days,’ and we agreed not to bother anymore. Paget being booted out helped with that, because she was the main reason I watched, and with the shocking way they treated her and AJ, well, so long, CM.

AND NOW THIS. IDEK. I’m happy for AJ to get regular work again, and if Paget rejoins, I respect her decision, but ARGH. I gave up this show and now they want to tempt me back?! But it was so, so bad this season, aside from the dubious cast decisions, the cases were terrible, the profiling abysmal and the violence gratuitous. Even with both ladies back, I’m not sure I can handle what it’s become.

I kind of hope that Paget’s new show takes off. If it’s only AJ rejoining the show, I won’t have to watch it, since Paget’s the main draw for me.

Not that I plan on watching her comedy show because:

a) I tend not to like comedy shows. Community is the one exception.
b) Her character’s the mom, right? She’s married? I mainly watch for UST, and I find married couples boring, sorry. Not saying she won’t be great in it, not judging the writing ‘coz I haven’t even seen it, just saying it ain’t my cup of tea.

But at least I KNOW I won’t be into that show, whereas if she’s back on CM, I might actually have to go back to it and I CAAAAAN’T.
The developments, especially Cook's potential return to Criminal Minds, do not bode well for newly minted regular Rachel Nichols, who was brought in to fill the void left by Cook's departure.

While things look bright for the female portion of the Criminal Minds cast, things are still murky on the male side, with stars Thomas Gibson and Shemar Moore still not signed for next season.

Oops, sucks for Rachel Nichols. It wasn’t her fault that the other two ladies got kicked out and it’s not her fault that TPDB are bending over backwards to appease fandom and she’s prob gonna get ditched to compensate. I wonder if her contract states how long she gets to stay? ‘coz it’d be funny if it were for a couple seasons, and then not only would TPDB have to pay for AJ and Paget, but they gotta shell out more money for her, ‘coz they can’t sever her contract!

What’s with Thomas Gibson not signing? I heard this ages ago, and it’s still not resolved? :O Can’t have Paget return if he ain’t there! MY SHIIIIIIP. *pouts*

It’s interesting to take into account an interview with him a while back:
Gibson, who plays team leader Hotch, told Entertainment Weekly: "I can't imagine the show without her. That's all I can really say at this point. I hope there's some way she can come back."

She might be coming back, so don’t quit just yet!

Vidspam: Randoooom. I don't suppose anyone watched Demons? I loved Ruby, played by Holliday Grainger who was Sophia in Merlin and is now on The Borgias. Totally shipped her with Rupert. I know, she was supposed to have unrequited love for the boy hero, not his gruff mentor, but damn, I was so into it anyway. :P The ship had me at the scene where he grabs her hand to write down his phone number! I wish there was a fandom, I want fic. *pouts*
