I've been reading a bunch of vampire-themed YA books recently, and, though not literature in the "will be a classic" sense, they are all much better than the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer.  Oh, and they all have human/vampire romance in them.  No one sparkles, and there are actually RULES in these societies!!

This weekend, for example, I read ( Read more... )

Whoa, tell me more about that Gail Carson Levine book. Is it a sequel to Ella Enchanted? To this day I still ADORE that book to pieces. Literally. You should see my copy.

It's not a sequel, but the inside cover promises the fairy Lucinda. I think this one is a retelling of Snow White.

Ella Enchanted was marvelous, but the rest of her books haven't been nearly as awesome or deep or layered. I think I've seen Fairest and been curious about it ... :D

I enjoyed The Two Princesses of Bamarre, but I don't remember much about it. I LOVED Ella Enchanted, though. So far I think Fairest is a step below Ella, but I'm not that far into it. We'll see.

AAAAH. I DID NOT KNOW CHALICE WAS OUT. I FEEL LIKE AN IDIOT. *rushes to library*

I don't think I ever read Dragonhaven because I was at MIT when I got it, but I could sort of tell that it was going to disappoint me. :/ But Chalice looks promising!

Dragonhaven's full of rambles, which I normally wouldn't mind from Robin McKinley, but it's easy to lose the plot and the story ends about 50 pages before the book does.

Okay, I just finished Chalice and it's much better than Dragonhaven. It feels more like her early books, like Beauty and The Blue Sword.
