Reading update

I'm rereading The President's Daughter by Ellen Emerson White.  White wrote a fourth book for this series (which I haven't read yet) and updated the first three for the modern audience in the process (since now we have cell phones, the Internet, and Hill Street Blues is no longer on TV).

The premise of the book is pretty obvious: Meg's mother runs ( Read more... )

I read Book Four this week and it took me a while to get into it because I was not at all happy about the updates, but as I read it - and it is definitely not a YA book, imho - I forgot more and more that Meg was really from 1984, and enjoyed the mindfucks and characters and stories more than I'd expected.

Let me know if you want to borrow it. Although as it's a massive paperback it would probably cost as much to ship it to you and back as it would for you to buy it...

Oh, thanks for the offer, but I can easily get it from the library. Nobody else seems to be reading it. :)

Thanks also for the tip that the series was re-released!

!!!! WHITE HOUSE AUTUMN WAS LIKE MY FAVORITE BOOK FOR SO LONG! :D It's so weird to hear someone else talk about it, actually.

I like the dated-ness of it, though. it's interesting that she updated them but still.

I didn't know people our age even read these books (well, except for me). :) Katherine Vaughn Powers is probably my second-or-third favorite fictional president (behind Bartlett, but very close to Dave).

I was really curious about the updating, so I thought I'd check it out. But it's been so long since I read any of them that I need the originals to really compare.
