Part One:

Bodies of angels with their wings burned into the ground beneath them, empty-eyed husks of demons, and still bleeding human corpses were strewn across the camp grounds. Seconds after Cas deposited their band inside the fence, they were under attack.
The outline of feathers shimmered in the gray light as a trio of angels, blades drawn, landed in front of Sam and Dean who moved side-by-side to meet them, their own weapons, taken from the angels Bobby and Ketch had killed, in hand. Dean caught the first thrust on the hilt of his knife and punched under the angel's outstretched arm with his left hand, and while the blow had no effect it was enough of a distraction for Ketch to jump in and run the angel through.
"You're welcome," Ketch said to Dean as they both turned to help Sam.
Sam had fended off one of his attackers but the other had managed to score a wicked slice down Sam's bicep. Dean slashed at that one, then Cas was beside him…and that assailant was down. Ketch was helping Sam with the other, the rapid fusillade of Bobby’s machine gun was protecting the rear, but more angels were dropping from the sky.
“We need to get to cover!” Dean yelled as another wave surrounded them.
“Dean! That building!” Cas pointed with his bloody blade. “It is covered with angel warding!”
They fought their way toward one of the few buildings in the camp that still looked structurally sound. Dean, Sam, and Cas led the charge, grim-faced, moving in automatic synch, the clanging of their weapons so rapid it sounded like another of Bobby’s guns.
Meg and Ketch had developed a pattern, she would take an angel’s first blow while Ketch would come in from the side and finish it. Crowley was holding his own, he’d acquired a second weapon and was racking up a body count while muttering under his breath about not signing up for hand-to-hand combat. Rowena was fervently chanting “Non mittet in circuitu eius circulus circum me tutela,” and the knives thrust at her bounced off an invisible barrier until one of the angels, thwarted by her barricade, swung round to stab at Crowley’s back.
“Fergus!” she yelled, and he jerked aside just enough that the blade missed him and he speared the angel in the neck, but the break in Rowena’s spell had allowed another angel to close in on her. Crowley pulled his blade from the dead angel and flung it. The angel toppled forward and Rowena gasped as her attacker collapsed. Blood trickled from her collarbone, and she and Crowley exchanged measured looks as she resumed her incantation with her next breath.
As they reached the house everyone scrambled onto the porch. Dean wiped at the blood dripping into his eye from a cut along his temple; Sam’s shirtsleeve was bright crimson. Ketch and Meg had mirror image grazes along their ribs while Crowley’s knuckles dripped red on the wood planks. Rowena was already healing her wound. Only Bobby and Cas were unscathed.
With their backs to the outside wall they all looked out at the massed forces lined up on the other side of the rail.
“Winchesters!” The power radiating from the angel that strode to the front nearly drove them to their knees-Rowena grabbed onto Ketch to keep from going down. “Your escape attempt is futile! There is nowhere you can hide on this earth that I will not find you…and these vermin that help you…And you!” Michael pointed at Cas who fought to maintain his footing as he was enveloped in a blast of air. “You are an angel, one of our kind even if you are from elsewhere! You betray us by working with these simians!”
“No, Michael. It is you who betray humanity and Our Father by destroying his creation! I cannot allow you to destroy these men who saved our world from this fate!”
“Big talk from one small angel!”
“Go inside, now, Dean, all of you! The warding will keep you safe!” Cas ordered quietly as he moved to stand at the top of the porch stairs.
“No, Cas, you can’t hold them off alone!”
“I can’t protect all of you at once! But Amara brought me back with all my heavenly power, I can hold my own at least a while! Go!”
Meg and Crowley were already through the doorway, Rowena, Ketch, and Bobby on their heels. Sam stood at the threshold, grabbed Dean’s sleeve. “Dean, he’s right.” He glanced at the maelstrom around them and gripped Dean’s arm tighter. “C’mon, we’ll regroup inside. Come up with something.”
With another look at Cas, Dean allowed Sam to pull him inside.
“Well, out of the fucking frying pan, into the fucking fire.” Meg’s voice was flat.
The room was full of demons, yet it was preternaturally quiet as one figure slowly strode forward.
“Well, well, well. Nothing like a visit from old friends.” Lucifer smirked chillingly, then called over his shoulder, “We’ve got company! Come and see who’s paying us a visit!” He jerked the short chain that was wound around one of his fists and a person lurched into the room behind him.
“Mom!”
Dean and Sam both stepped forward but Lucifer waved one hand and with a sudden jerk every one of their group was pinned to the walls.
“Dean…Sam…Ketch? Is Cas…” Mary was gaunt and pale under the bruises on her face. Her hands were chained in front of her and Lucifer continued to steer her to the center of the room with a vicious grip on her upper arm.
“Cas is here, too.” Sam answered her unfinished question. “We’re here to rescue you.”
“Oh, how touching. You assembled this whole little Ocean’s Eleven crew just to save Mommy from the big bad wolf.” His eyes slid over their faces. “Crowley! Rowena! Why, little, loyal Meg! And you say Cas is here, too? Oh, he’s probably still outside, can’t get through the warding I had put up to make this place a cozy little retreat...But however did you manage to pull all of them…I imagine it’s quite a story and I will want to hear it sometime. However, I’d love to hear your plan for getting back to the other side first. Who knows, I might be willing to not have my demons tear the lot of you apart immediately in exchange for a ride home.”
“You can’t let him back!” Mary shook her head. Lucifer slapped her. “Did I ask you to speak?” he snarled, then looked back where Dean and Sam where trying futilely to free themselves.
“I admit, I’ve got a nice little set-up here,” he spoke in a confidential tone. “Wasn’t hard to convince what’s left of the human community that an alliance with the demons would give them a shot at finally taking down the angel dicks. That’s the genius of a good leader, you know, getting the whole enemy-of-my-enemy mindset going. Although I have to say, your mother was a bit of a pain, undercutting my strategic offer of an accord with exaggerated accounts of my notorious past. I’ve had to keep her in the cellar for weeks. But it’s all working out reasonably well, though I admit we’ve just about exhausted the human cannon fodder and Michael still hasn’t given up…But I’d be happy to blow this popsicle stand and get back to where I belong.”
“No.”
“Oh, Dean, do you really think you have the upper hand here?” Lucifer pulled an angel blade from his jacket and held the point against Mary’s throat. “Tell me how you’re getting back through the rift.”
“He can’t. We don’t have a way yet.” Meg spoke up from where she was flattened alongside an empty bookcase.
“You expect me to believe the Winchesters came in without a way out?”
“Well, actually,” Crowley grimaced, “the rest of us were sent here to rescue Moose and Squirrel. But the…entity who sent us told us to figure out how to get out ourselves, and we haven’t gotten that far.”
“You expect me to believe that? Who sent you?”
“Amara,” Rowena piped up.
“That bitch.” Lucifer’s expression turned cold. “That’s it. I’m done. They’re all yours, boys.” He motioned to the demons who had been listening and released his hold. Everyone staggered from where they had been pinned as the demons moved toward them.
Lucifer returned his attention to Mary. “You, too. I kept you around to amuse me but you’re as much of a pain as your sons.”
“Nooo!” Dean threw himself across the room but there was no way he would reach Lucifer to stop him from cutting Mary’s throat…
And everything-everyone-froze.
“Hi gang!”
Gabriel walked through the front door, sucking on a lollipop, his arm around Cas. “Looks like I got here just as the party’s starting!” Releasing Cas, he threaded his way through the immobile bodies until he reached Lucifer and Mary, then plucked the angel blade from Lucifer’s hand. “You need to be more careful playing with your toys, brother. Someone could get hurt, poke an eye out, slit a throat accidentally.” With a wave the cuffs fell from Mary’s wrists, then with a finger snap the manacles were locked around Lucifer and their chain spiraled from Lucifer’s knees to his chest.
Gabriel looked around. “Something’s missing.” He snapped his fingers again. “Audience reaction.”
Still no one could move, but Gabriel was rewarded with a litany of curses, mostly variations on ‘what the fuck.’
“I have to say, it’s good to be back.” He resumed strolling around the room, alternately poking the stationary figures or repositioning them whimsically and ignoring the questions and invectives being thrown at him. He reached Dean, frozen mid-leap in the center of the room. “That is going to hurt when I snap my fingers again.”
“Let me loose, you douchebag!” In response Gabriel moved the coffee table to be directly under Dean. “Is that any way to talk to the celestial being who is going to save your ass…again?” He continued walking. He moved the hands of the next demon he encountered to its own throat, then moved the feet of the next one so it was standing on its own shoelaces and would trip when it tried to move.
He reached the rescue party. “Ah, Mr. Crowley! I realize we’ve never been formally introduced, but as Loki I’ve admired some of your creative bargains.” He positioned one of Crowley’s index fingers directly under Crowley’s chin and the other centered at the top of his head.
“I’m flattered.” Crowley tried for dignified despite his position. “But I’d heard you’d been eliminated some time ago.”
Gabriel had moved on to Meg. “Yes, I missed a lot of excitement. But I’m back…” He positioned Meg’s fingers so she had a finger pressing dimples into each cheek. “Dear old Dad found out about His sister’s end run around the ‘non-interference clause’ and was a bit…what would you call it? Annoyed? Bothered?” Gabriel turned to gaze reflectively at Cas. “I would go so far as to say He was Extremely Not Pleased…and then He figured He’d better send someone to untangle the mess so these universes wouldn’t get any more knotted together. You could say I’m a literal deus ex machina.”
Rowena ended up with her fingers in her ears. Gabriel pondered Sam while sucking ferociously on his sucker. After a moment, he pulled two demons to stand in front of Sam and placed an angel blade in each of Sam’s fists. “Piece of cake for you, Sammy, right?” Gabriel asked as he stepped back to survey the tableau he’d arranged.
“So G-Chuck brought you back?”
“He did, Sam. He decided to finish the project He’d started a while ago, reconstructing me. And I have to say, He did a top-notch job, brought me back with more juice than I had even before…and I was no slouch then, was I, Castiel?”
“No, before you disappeared there used to be bets as to who would win an actual fight between you and Raphael.”
“And who did you bet on, Cas?”
“I did not bet. And since you broke the angel warding to allow us entry, shouldn’t we be moving faster to remove ourselves from this location?”
“But I’m having fun, Cas, and besides, I restored the warding once we came inside, so Michael’s not going to be bothering us just yet. Oh, you’re a serious one.” Gabriel had reached Ketch. “Hmm…Let’s test your reflexes.” He removed the angel blade Ketch had been holding and replaced it with a nasty-looking curved knife from the nearest demon, then repositioned Ketch’s hand so he was about to stab himself in the stomach.
“You are going to be in so much pain when I am through with you, brother…” Lucifer’s angry voice filled the room.
“Yeah, not so much, brother.” Gabriel undid Bobby’s belt buckle and pulled his cap over his eyes. “Dad’s pretty pissed with you. He’s also pretty pissed with this world’s Michael. He’s thinking you two deserve each other. He’s also a little annoyed with you Winchesters…” Gabriel snapped his fingers and the room rolled with motion.
Dean landed on the coffee table with a loud grunt…Sam stabbed the two demons facing him before they could react…Ketch twisted his wrist at an impossible angle and pierced thin air instead of his stomach…demons were toppling in all directions…and Mary punched Lucifer in the face then jumped away.
“Gabriel!”
Lucifer’s arms extended to blast the room but Gabriel snapped his fingers again and Lucifer and all the demons were once more unable to move.
Gabriel walked over to stare Lucifer in the eye. “I told you I got brought back with more mojo. Dad wanted to be sure I got this mess,” he cocked his head at the Winchesters, “cleaned up, and knowing you were here, he made sure I’d be able to handle you. You really screwed up. So I hope you enjoy this universe, because you’re going to be here for a long time.” He looked back where everyone had gathered around Sam and Dean. “You all ready?” He paused with his fingers set to snap, looked at the nodding heads. “Well, then, click your heels three times and say there’s no place like home!”
The bunker’s familiar walls surrounded them.
“Nice digs!” Meg exclaimed.
“What in the tarn-hell!” Bobby’s startled exclamation drew everyone’s eyes to him.
“Oops!” Gabriel smirked and vanished.
“Well, it’s been an adventure, but I’ll be along now, don’t try calling me, I won’t be answering.” Rowena swept toward the stairs leading out.
“Yes, I’d best be going now, too.” Ketch followed her. He glanced back once at Meg. “Care to join me?”
Meg looked around the bunker, eyes landing on Castiel. “Not just yet. Maybe I’ll look you up in England sometime.”
“I’m actually done with the whole King-of-Hell business…you have enough rooms, I’m just going to make myself comfy here for a while. Bring up the quality of the whiskey you keep in the place.” Crowley wandered into the hallway.
“Crowley!” Dean yelled.
“Let him go, Dean. Look who we’ve got back.” Sam smiled.
“Mom?” Sam held out his arm and Mary leaned against him.
Dean looked around, then grabbed Cas in a spontaneous hug. “Man, I’m glad…” his voice caught. “And Mom, you’re safe…” he pulled Cas with him to join Sam and Mary.
Meg looked at Bobby who was still staring around the bunker in awe, then back at Cas whose attention was focused on healing the Winchesters’ wounds from the battle.
“I gotta say, I think I’m gonna enjoy this time around.”
